Specify an age from 8 years - I tested with preschoolers :)
Despite the "wrong" age group it was fun and exciting, (same times one of the most difficult types) to build the gripper arm on the cover together. We have divided us in the "stages of construction," because the gripper consists of three parts, each of which was equipped with one of 3 engines.
The system components (by Gigo) are to act for skillful 5- and 6-year-old. Only when inserting the axis by the auger so much force was needed, that even an adult had to do.
The guide is well designed. Step by step shows what where needs to clean. However, one must also pay attention to small details. The children understood the manual, roughly, for the subtleties it needed help again.
Focus on the study of the experimental kit was then for the kids but playing with the finished model. It was really exciting: Would operate the gripper?
And indeed, then steered the infrared remote control the three motors without objection: one for the gripping movement, a turning arm and moved the arm up and down.
There were then crafted from paper cubes and tested how far the remote control still does their service, whether the model still works when it is in the closet etc.
The next project is already planned, only the decision is difficult, whether it's the creepy bat, the ball sliding machine or a car should be; and of course it is a pity that for the gripper has to be taken apart, because you can only build a model.
In summary:
+ System components the cosmos with other boxes (Physics Professional, solar car, power generator, Gyroroboter, wind energy, solar energy ...) are compatible
+ Good guide
+ Detailed booklet with many suggestions and factual information to the "adult world"
+ Perfectly functioning and extensive remote control (small, without disturbing the antenna, infrared,)
+ Need of technical knowledge in assembling and games
+ Long-lasting gaming fun
+ For children of all ages as well as adults)
- The interior compartments of the box no longer separate the small parts, because they are not strong enough plugged together and gaps - unfortunately a case for the paper sack.
- No batteries included, with the indication of durability ... hmmm ... the next box then maybe with solar panels?
- Axes only with much effort by the pluggable screw shafts, while loosening some parts during use of the model very quickly
Nevertheless, I forgive full 5 stars because I like the Experimentierkasten overall very good. Especially highly I rate this the game and the length of employment - a "toy" with which it will not get bored and that is suitable for a wide age range (with more or less assistance and guidance by adults).
