The task of TP left with me is to realize a fast connection by a reinforced concrete slab through the Fritzbox. That's what he does best: stable 100% signal strength with 300 Mbps (according to Windows). That's more than I expected and a significant improvement over the WLAN stick, which I had previously.
The driver installation was straightforward, almost plug'n'play.
The included control software and the WPS functionality I do not use.
But what struck me: The driver package contains seemingly no drivers for Win8 (June '13). But I use not, so I can give no further information.
Overall, the device acts dibasic. When mounting (fitting) one notices the weight of the 18 cm long antennae. By contrast, my Fritz box looks like a toy. However, the only drawback: If you compare the antennas vertically to lie vertically on the base and lift the entire adapter. But does not interfere further.
The lack of 5GHz radio is in my case is not a problem, as there are hardly any interference here anyway.
Anyone wishing to use the Wi-Fi on rooms or floors away, I can give a buy recommendation.
Addendum: After a few weeks of use, there was the link sometimes breaks. Although Windows indicating the connection as properly, done no more throughput. In other TP Link adapters I had read some of problems due to the USB cable. In fact, the replacement of the enclosed cable brought an improvement. Since then, the connection is stable.
