Carnival of Rust is the second time the class of 3 Finns, who entered with "Late Goodbye" in Max Payne 2, the pop / rock world stage. As already Signs of Life remains CoR without total failure, because there are beautiful ballads, nice mid-tempo pieces and real rock-boards in a quality, where some long-established band could still abschauen lot. Ingenious arrangements, without too much pomp (* times lifted up critical finger toward Coldplay's X & Y *), surprising breaks (let Queens of the Stone Age greet), cool guitar licks and a powerful and expressive voice are what make the album level.
Highlights:
"Fire" with its tension, its ingenious breaks and a warped guitar solo
"Roses" as grooving ballad
"Delicious" as catchy rock board
"Maybe Tomorrow Is A Better Day" as a radio-compatible but high quality pop rock.
Weaknesses (if one can really talk of weaknesses in this album):
"King Of Fools", "All The Way / 4U" and "Dawn" - all 3 compared to the rest of the album simply overly exciting.
Meanwhile rotates the album for many many weeks daily in the player, not the end in sight. I wait for the next output, perhaps my expectations are indeed finally disappointed! ;-)
