Actually, the covers should be included with the camera, because you need them. I have (compared to the other lens covers) opted for this much more expensive accessory because it fits securely to Hero 3+. The protective glass for the lens, which can be used for the camera when it is not in the housing is also useful ser and may justify the higher price. In expensive lenses for SLR you also used a UV filter to protect the front lens.
