The Lady in White (Paperback)

Customer Review

I thought to put at least a week to read the tiny writing pad, nay!

I devoured this brick of 554 pages! The style of Wilkie Collins is simply delicious, we plunge into another era, one rediscovers the mores of Victorian England quite backward. If the story seems rather simplistic at first, the plot is cleverly implemented, suspense and action take their time, events take their course at their own pace. The story is told by different characters and each has its own way and its own style. The blackness of the novel lies in the characters' psychology and mentality of the time. The perversity of human relations is illustrated perfectly by Collins. The outcome is predictable but it is certainly the sequence of events that amazes me more than the Plot solution itself.

I liked Sac, written with Charles Dickens, but I loved the Lady in White.
