Based on the novel of my mind completely underestimated Anne Bronte. The young, naive Helem Graham (somewhat colorless, as, unfortunately, very often the ladies of the English literary adaptations) meets the attractive, but somewhat frivolous Arthur Huntingdon know (brilliant and wonderfully demonic played!). Contrary to the advice of her relatives she marries him, and so does the evil run its course: He drinks, deceives them and makes them most of the time alone in her big, dark house. After years of humiliation she leaves her husband with her young son and begins in a dilapidated house a new life - there she meets also the young Dorfbeau Gilbert Markham ... The film as well as the novel reflect ultra-modern image of women again, the film is highly recommended for fans of Anne Bronte's sober, but effective realism.
