This is a "war Score". Kenner likely immediately think of "Tears of the Sun", but "Black Hawk Down" is much more intense and sonically impressive. In addition, room is also a rather unusual way and accompanies the tumult of war with hard guitar beats and deep beats. But the broad and epic passages in which room playing with his subjects are represented. And here is the German master composer in his element.
Large-scale issues, like "Pirates ..." does not exist here, however. The only recognizable theme or rather motif is played for the first time in "Hunger". A very subtle, but beautiful piece. This motif is in "Still" and "Still Reprise" beautiful again expanded with oriental, tinged vocals and the other with an exotic string instrument that is also used several times in the score (I think it's called duduk).
Total rooms remains very cautious here. Its typical action scoring is here almost entirely. While there are many faster and louder Passaegn but as "action" can not be called this. In "Hunger" it is in the second half very rapidly, to a mix of electric guitar and exotic sounds and beats to dark. An example of how the score works, though very electronic, but here it fits perfectly! One could describe "Black Hawk Down" as a mixture of "The Thin Red Line" and "Gladiator".
In some places, the music is also very African and gives the work yet another facet.
In addition to the score pieces, also a total of three songs can be found. Especially "Barra Barra" is terrific, the singing (no idea what kind of a language), with the rock-heavy background. I see while listening to this song still American troops are getting ready for their use. "Bakara" recalls almost a kind of rap, but fits very well into the overall mood. And "Minstrel Boy" almost reminiscent of a Brian Adams song, but is much more intense, and above all sound nice.
Then there are highlights such as the beat-heavy "Synchrotone", the beautiful "Gortoz A Ran - J Attends" with the plaintive vocals which almost reminiscent "The Lord Of The Rings" and the triumphant "Leave No Man Behind" , This score can no longer be a going on, the mood and the impressive atmosphere are just unbelievable.
Definitely one of the most intense of the room scores!
Whether you want to enjoy the music again the film or even creates images in his mind: "Black Hawk Down" is a sweeping soundtrack work. And rooms proves once again that you can conjure up a fantastic score without a big orchestra. A strong buy recommendation for fans of rooms and interesting soundtrack!
