+ Fast
+ Quiet
+ Cooling (no need for an extra cooling)
+ Good service
+ Low power consumption
- Price is currently little high (as of 01.27.2015), was lower.
The read and write - speed is with an empty disk up to 140 MB / s at almost full disk about 85 MB / s.
The company Western Digital offers an incomparably better service than for example Seagate (painfully from my own experience - exchange Seagate needs before 8 weeks to a bad disk).
By the way, the reviewers with the noisy hard drives should claim the - this is not normal.
The plates can be heard only when access to large media libraries (for example, thousands of photos or songs).
Then they rattle like all mechanical hard drives of this type. However, this chatter is much quieter than any other I know of mechanical hard drives (and I know many).
By comparison, I also have a HGST HGST 4TB 6TB and 4 x. They are all much much louder than the WD and are really hot. You definitely need fan for cooling the plates. - Not so with the WD drives.
The HGST drives are a little faster - but the difference is negligible in practice. Who needs a fast disk, engages in any case to a SSD, since the difference is really big.
I use the WD among others for cutting and rendering of 4K footage with Premiere CC. With effects and multi-track preview rendering is imperative. Because it does not matter whether I use the HGST or WD. Only the SSD drives to the faster.
