I purchased the board as a day to supply 129 on Amazon. The delivery was as always speedy.
Unpacking and going
========================
If you are not particularly familiar with network technology, the WD is just right. It is virtually plug and play. One has only once integrated into your own network and you can already the rest easily configure via web interface. In addition I have the WD hung only a laptop and a fixed IP assigned (you can also assign a dynamic DHCP, but this also makes it difficult to access from outside the local network). Then it was hung in the home network and further configured. They can easily call in the browser on the statically assigned IP and then comes as the Web interface. Otherwise you have on his router check what dynamic IP got the WD, or alternatively you use a network scanner.
Firmware
========================
Currently the firmware release 4.01.03.421 (23/02/2015)
With this number of problems such as the permanent indexing should be fixed. I've installed manually in any case immediately after purchase. The automatic update service did not work for me. Manually, it is also quite easy. You can select a file on the PC that you have previously downloaded from WD via the web interface.
The update went through quickly. I've made the update immediately after the Integration in my network, before data were played on it.
Fill with data
========================
I have included the myCloud in my network on multiple PCs and laptops as a network drive. The transfer rate can be more than excellent. About my gigabit network I get an average of 80-90MB / s with correspondingly large (about 1 GB) Media Files. In WLAN it's a lot slower, so I use only the Ethernet connection to actually copy data to and from the NAS.
DLNA streaming
========================
In the network, the WD is recognized by the same DLNA protocol. I use a DLNA client to resist passing on the media of WD in the living room on my VU + Linux receiver. This works fine.
Other Streaming
========================
The media playback of 720p material over WLAN via eingebundenem network drive on laptop works fine. This is mainly from its own wireless (signal strength) depends. In 1080p content you should have a good (ac) wireless connection.
More Functions
========================
Other features of WD as the cloud service and access from outside its own network, I can not say anything because I do not use these functions.
Others
========================
I can not say much because the WD stands beside my Synology in the study on the volume. The WD is passively cooled and therefore has many small holes for air circulation, so you hear turn the plate. The drive wakes up, what one can see the log files on several occasions. New logfiles are written daily at night. Obviously the board with the latest firmware is quite well placed in the idle state when the WD is not needed. Unfortunately, there is not the possibility of planned shutdown. Thus, the WD really runs through 24/7. But do you need when the disk is at rest, under 10W. Under full load it is under 15W.
Watching you have access to the SSH. Those who thus should not familiar to deactivate. Should you on the console something "broken" make void the warranty! The WD runs on a Debian Linux. However, you can not simply re-install packages, since the page size has been changed from 4k to 64k. There are several instructions in the network, but with their help you can re-install packages. You have to make but at your own risk, because as already mentioned this will void the warranty.
Conclusion
========================
For the money (129), the WD is just great. There is installed a WD Red 3TB drive that costs alone also to the 120. It is a very fast (80-90 MB / s) network drive that I use exclusively as a media drive for me. My Synology DS211 provides for example, only about 40 MB / s.
