The "Fear of the dark" is the last album with Bruce Dickinson for long 8 years. Bruce was already thinking of his solo project? Or missing Adrian Smith somehow as a songwriter? Or were Steve Harris this time only 2 or 3 highlights and is not the same a lot more? One does not know. Personally, I just think that in the present plate the average songs predominate, indeed some are actually pretty boring. From the spirit of optimism and the experimentation of the 80s has remained little left. Yet the board is the bottom line (of course) a good record, but it is precisely Maiden. At first place but that is up to two mega songs, namely 'Afraid to Shoot strangers` and `Fear of the dark`. These two songs tear out the album because they are among the best Maiden songs ever! It creates an incredible atmosphere, really mysterious and Bruce sings something of strong, almost unbelievable. In addition, a good song 'From here to eternity` which was a single. But there are also, as has been written, a lot of average songs such as `Fear is the key`,` Childhood`s end`, `Chains of misery` and` Judas be my guide` available.
The bottom line is, there are 4 stars, because the top two songs it addressed.
We now write November 2014. Having heard again today the plate I have to say that `Childhood`s end` but a good song is. Therefore, the 4 star already be okay.
