When I discovered "gamble" in a bookstore two weeks before the book, I was initially a bit confused. It has the words "a Dick Francis novel" and the name of Felix zusätztlich Francis. I was not sure if this is a new release or a new version of an old Dick Francis novel. My research has shown that it is indeed a new release (2011) and "gamble" is the first book that wrote Felix Francis without his father Dick (2010 died). The book has everything you need for a real Francis. A smypathischer, injured ex-jockey who earns his money with financial transactions, but would much prefer riding horse race. The racing scene. Mysterious incidents and a murder. To ensure its survival, the protagonist begins to investigate and equipment several times in the line of fire of his enemies. I have the new novel by Felix Francis loved to read, but he has never really taken me under its spell. Many plot elements already existed with his father Dick and the showdown, I found a little lame. Nevertheless, the thriller has me well entertained. I would give "gamble" 3.5 stars, but since I'm a longtime fan of father and son, I round generously to 4 stars. I very much hope that Felix Francis even more finds its own themes and its own style in future. He is a gifted writer and has no reason to hide behind his famous father. I'm excited "bloodline" on his second novel.
