Test setup:
Sony Alpha 57 coupled with Samsung Note 2, iphone 4; IPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Lenovo Yoga 8 and Huawei Ascend Mate 7. Test manner via Dell XT2 (Notebook).
Map and speed:
The map is extremely fast, which in a Class 10 you can expect. Of course, this can not quite keep up with the current top models of SanDisk and Co.. For a series of multiple images, which the alpha 57 shoots quickly, but it suffices. The data transfer rates over the WLAN depend mainly on the radio link. Until about 10 meters, the transmission works without objection.
Coverage:
This is a strong camera model-dependent issue. Especially metal bodies are at a disadvantage because here the radiation is easily shielded better. The designers of many cameras simply do not mind that someone comes to the resourceful idea to integrate a WiFi module here. It can only come to Ranges between 3 and 5 meters in metal bodies. But for that the card can not.
Power consumption:
Increased electricity consumption is ultimately a bit camera-dependent. The Aplha 57 has quite a large battery with high capacity. A small pocket camera could lose power more quickly of course. In addition, this can be quite simple on the Sony regulate internal battery saving function. In screen mode, the camera switches from the card slot after about 1 minute of non-use. This I can manually correct or off also upwards. Especially if I want sharen images / movies.
Function / application:
We come to the main area. My desires are fully satisfied. There are in the meantime several apps (IOS and Android) to this map. A Original Toshiba (basic functions) and two other private programmers (FlashAir and FA AutoDownloader). In the screen, you can find a screenshot of the app. Unfortunately, Toshiba has nowhere listed them here in the article description with. Normally I use the originals and this is also sufficient to retrieve images between devices. Toll, however, there is also an app and a program that automatically retrieves just the images and makes displayed. Thus, for example, can take pictures at a wedding and the pictures just to show seconds time delay on a projector / screen. That was earlier only with expensive professional equipment.
Otherwise, it is very easy to pass on images. A smartphone has today almost every case. We were able to make our vacation cruise the images the passengers immediately available recently. Then looks like the camera is on the table and all the people sitting around grip with your smartphone via the associated Free Apps on the device to. One should then just be careful if necessary private nude photos in advance to move! :-)
This technique came at my fellow passengers on so well that they want to also get the card. In principle, like any good camera a "smart camera". Of course there is also possible at any time to view the high-quality images via smartphone in social media like Facebook. So one comes finally to enjoy taking the pictures of good camera and make not a bad with the cheap smartphone camera. Another real plus!
(Small) -Nachteil / Conclusion:
The card has its own WiFi. That's advantages and disadvantage at the same time. When traveling disturbs the little, but in your own home, there is often already a home network. It would be nice if you could integrate the map or in the future, that this will be assigned its own IP network. So you always have to first get out of the network to be in the einzubuchen the camera. But ultimately, the bleating at a high level.
For a small price, are very compact technique that should be have been unthinkable a few years ago. I find it amazing at how little space today 16GB and Wi-emitter fit. My APHA 57 now makes even more fun, because this has ultimately get a mobile link to the network and now ambitious recordings and Internet-enabled applications are no longer excluded. For those who take a lot and at the same time also like to sharen one or the other image, the investment is really worth it!
