After the latest reviews from Humax HD + and Technisat devices were not so great and the Linux Enigma devices namely meet my needs for openness and configurability, therefore are not quite as good when Kritierum family-friendly, I chose the Panasonic DMR-BST 700 EG.
Installation:
- Very good labeling of the device
- Basic Installation (LNBs, Tuning) very easy and after 20 minutes completed
- Network Installation no problem
- But managed to try settings for audio upstream / HMDI bit confusing with 10 min
All in all very easy when has ever connected and configured a SAT receiver. This manual provides only a very rough guide, not now-this-button-guidance and no deeper technical details included.
Programming of recordings:
Very simple and intuitive (no tvtv), unfortunately no continuous shooting but what with the selectable repeat function (Mon-Fri, Mon-Sat, Mon-Sun or weekend day) can be easily balanced.
Quality of the recordings:
Very good as Panasonic standard DR (Direct Recording - the signal is recorded as received) is. Of course, other formats, with appropriate degrees of quality and extension of the recording time) can be selected.
The upscaler also provides for an HD-Ready Plasma impressive good pictures, both when playing from the hard drive, as well as BlueRays or DVDs.
Operation:
Unfortunately, not always intuitive but not too complicated. The look at the manual usually does not help because taste is then announced. The design of the remote control Panasonic has stopped halfway through, the upper part with the most important element is very well done, the rarer features such as Audio Language, etc are located unloving in the lower part and difficult to interpret by unusual symbols.
DLNA:
Really played a description of which formats is not available in the manual and on the Internet (Panasonic Support) there is no information. So far I have only .TS and MGEG-2 can play reliably, the very well without any lag or dropouts. For all other formats, I use the media player from Asus.
Conclusion:
- Family-friendly (easy handling) - Meets
- Stability - Meets
- DLNA client - because he is not good - Not Met
- Good reviews of users - at Amazon UK there are very good reviews
It's annoying to the DLNA, but the rest fits all, so I would choose the Panasonic again.
