So I am of a Gore Tex back to a (double-stitched) full leather boots of lighter design (Meindl Badile) returned. Gore Tex likes many things already be good, but not during the summer months when hiking boots. Many do not know that Gore text only works when the temperature difference is big enough (apart from the membrane does not last forever - a double stitched leather shoe, however, with proper care for several years or even decades, is among other things, resole). Because I sweat quite strong on your feet, I was in touch with synthetic fiber socks pretty fast in "own juice", which was pretty unpleasant. But now to the actual topic to Woolpower 400th
My experiences after several tours with this sock:
- Very natural shoe climate. 100% dry even in the not me, but not as humid as in artificial fiber socks.
- Good climate regulation. Whether in winter or in summer. This sock is not too hot and not too cold, and you can wear almost throughout the year.
- No, or little odor. Even after a long tour day socks and therefore the shoes hardly smell.
- No scratching. The prejudice that socks scratch (or socks with wool), here not confirmed (thankfully). I'm very sensitive and notice any unpleasant scratching.
- Very washable. Even after many washes, the socks do not fluff.
- No formation of bubbles. I had been experimenting for many years a very troublesome Blasenprobem and around a lot. Really nothing helped until I got the idea this sock in conjunction with a leather shoe to taste. Bladder problem solved.
What should be noted. The sock falls quite short of a hiking sock. So you should check with high-top shoes, if they still protrude above the shoe. I personally have with my shoes (Meindl Badile) no problems with it. I think in normal high hiking boots should not be an issue.
And another thing. The sock buy not too big! When one is between two sizes, like me, then choose the smaller ones. I have shoe size 44.5 and socks size 40-44 chosen that fits perfectly. If the sock is too large, there is a danger of wrinkling, which then contributes again to bubbles.
Of course, this quality has its price. But I think when you spend EUR 200 for walking shoes, also 1-2 pairs you should be able to afford decent socks.
Conclusion: The Woolpower 400 is the ideal, if not entirely favorable functional socks for hiking and mountain hiking for me. Especially in conjunction with a full leather boot there is nothing better.
