I bought this lens because I was looking for an alternative to my V2 with Nikon 10-100mm with better image quality. The lens is used on a D7100 with 24MP. After the visit of several forums, I was convinced the combination Nikon DSLR and 18-200 to achieve a much higher detail resolution than the Nikon 1 combination. But since I put more emphasis on their own experience as the opinion on Internet forums, I have let the two cameras compete with the travel zoom up to today. The result was surprising. The Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm G ED on the D7100 was against the Nikon 1 Nikkor 10-100mm unconvincing. I've always been very pleased with the Nikon 1 Nikkor 10-100er but the Nikon 18-200 had to be better but on the D7100. The first reaction was that I have the original box of the Nikon 18-200 extracted, the lens is packaged and was determined to separate myself from the "cucumber". After a few days but I have revised my decision and brought the lens and camera to Nikon Service in Dusseldorf and let there adjust the lens. Lo and behold, it does now in a completely different league than before. The comparison shots show a significant improvement in sharpness over the entire image area, all corners are now resolved the same and there is what surprises me very, fewer CAs. Of course, the image quality is comparable after all not with fixed focal lengths. But I admit concerns that notice these differences during Pixelpeepen on the monitor in the 100% view. In deductions / Print to 30-40cm and especially in photo books you will not notice any difference. Conclusion: The Nikon AF-S 18-200mm G ED VRII is an excellent travel lens with a very well-functioning Board. Due to the large focal length range, it is extremely flexible. The lower compared to peak prime lenses resolution is basically of academic interest and not to forget who has caught a faint copy, it should let adjust service and then forward to the jump in the imaging performance with the Nikon.
PS: I have my lens at Amazon Marketplace bought used. The defects in the imaging performance can therefore be incurred due to mishandling by the previous owner but including the additional cost of the Nikon adjustment service was still bargains.
