The first five I have purchased in the local trade, the sixth here on Amazon. The latter belongs to the easy 'modernized' copies with over narrow sleeves, in which one only with neat printing can insert the CDs and DVDs - the issue was already discussed several times here.
Since last year, also Blu-rays have increasingly found their way into the suitcase. Since Blu-ray reflection layer for the laser in relation to the predecessor DVD much closer to the surface of the discs is (just 1/10 of a millimeter), Blu-rays are more sensitive in terms of scratches. It was therefore of the manufacturers, a special hard coat developed by which the surface is sealed and which is extremely scratch resistant.
Nevertheless scratches are of course not excluded solely on the plugging in a Kunststoffhuelle - especially if it is very tight - not just to call in the face of possible impairment of the surface by small dust or foreign particles in the sleeves to be optimal. So I decided last weekend at least the Blu-rays migrate from the suitcases in Standard Jewel Cases with tray for CDs, as these allow beruehrungsfreie storage (with respect to the Datentraegerseite) - lack of space or not!
During the visual inspection of the Blu-rays during this operation I had to find the following (and this exclusively with Blu-rays):
On the data side edge regions of the Blu-rays, especially where the wheels come into close contact with the envelopes (each center left, right, bottom) were evident in the paint layer of the Blu-ray small but shows visible corrosion in the form of sprenkelartigen holes in the paint layer. This first impression was confirmed on closer inspection under a microscope. Assumed cause: either outgassing of plasticizers from the hull or direct chemical reaction of the casings with the paint material.
With several Probelaeufen Although all available readers (BD player and PC-BD drives) showed unimpressed, but as the BDs were incorporated only since about one years, you do not know how the disks in two or three years would have looked. Striking was that these corrosion at the last purchased suitcase strongly with the narrow sleeves pronounced than in older cases with further cut sleeves. That also seems to speak for me a direct chemical reaction, but I'm not a chemist.
For CDs and DVDs showed lack of coating film, no similar abnormality, but these have by plugging and unplugging sometimes grossflaechig micro-scratches, which can be seen in raking light easily. Because, for example. DVDs the reflective layer 0.6 mm but below the surface, affecting such microscratches readability usually not or only negligible.
Résumé: for CDs and DVDs of limited suitability for Blu-ray not recommended due to the observed CHANGES, even if the long-term effects can not be proven here. Immediately get new Blu-ray access from the outset her 'private room'. :-)
