The entire first season goes the way, the mayor of Defiance, their struggle against more or less all, down to the lawman, Nolan, beautiful 'gnarled' by Grant Bowler shown. The battle between the families and Tarr McCawley etc.
All have nice and can also occur in Denver and Dallas, the whole course in a science fiction / end time setting. There are also many alien races but here's my personal problem comes with the series: It is not told how it happened. Aliens are attacking the earth to be destroyed and then on the Wotan-peoples live together with the people.
Unfortunately, there are only hints to that spring mainly the preload / Title where you can see a couple of spaceships that attack Earth. Where this about five people come from, why they are there - their planet was apparently destroyed is mentioned - the person comes to me all too short. The focus of the series is on the current people and their current problems with each other, the history is more than striped. The 'stake wars', nice but what does that mean exactly?
Story OK for a series, CGI acceptable but not good actor good but I missed a lot of background.
As written, relating to Season 1. Season 2 may be different, but it die a couple of very important characters in the last few episodes, so I fear the worst for Season 2.
Anyway, an absolutely ansehbare series that however little enlightening provides the background to the story and relates more to the local family histories.
Therefore, I give you a star deduction.
Conclusion: **** Four stars
