The design is very pronounced. Personally, I preferred the design of the R6300 that fits better in my decor. But we like it or not, we must admit that the chosen design highly efficient in every respect. External antennas are very effective, the unit's cooling is impeccable even during intensive use, and finally, it can be wall mounted. The biggest problem for me is the brightness of LEDs that illuminate a dark room without difficulty. Moreover, recent flash which makes it impossible to use in a room for example. However, since the last firmware (1.0.3.24), Netgear added an option to control the diodes and clear the major fault.
Level functionality is Netgear, it is not out of place by the same interface engineering on all products in the range and controllable from PC, tablet and smartphone. The first connection was made up automatic configuration tool for me has configured the internet access in a transparent way in under 5 minutes.
Small regret, however, the lack of local DNS is incomprehensible to me ... This is the case on all Netgear products, but this requires to maintain a host file on each device. Hope to that this lack is corrected one day a Netgear.
The WiFi performance is well above the average, and 5GHz is a big advantage in areas with high density wifi (buildings, ...) or 2.4GHz frequencies are often parasitized. Coverage is extended considerably thanks to beamforming. It should be noted though that there was some stability problems with wifi signal in the first firmware, but since Version 1.0.3.22, these problems are corrected for me.
Interesting option, this router allows you to create a network "Guest" to offer to your breakfast a connection to the internet, but without giving them access to your private network.
The USB3 port offers a real speed USB3 and can easily bear comparison with a NAS regarding the performance ... with less configuration option obviously.
This router also incorporates a very valuable and easy to implement a VPN. As against the limited setting (management of a single certificate) will be prohibitive for some.
Finally, for the more adventurous or those who have special needs, this router is compatible with the well-known open source firmware DD-WRT.
