With my first product review at all, I would try other interested parties to support in their purchasing decision and hope it succeeds me.
The Lumia 820 I bought a week ago in my local media market, until then I had a few limitations, satisfied owner of a Galaxy S3 which I sold to various reasons again. One of the reasons was the example despite the high price and the relatively high-grade plastic (polycarbonate, the 820 will use also the Lumia) cheap-looking processing. Thus, I decided after much back and forth to my first Windows Phone ever, before that I was longtime Android users.
But now to eigentlichem product which I will describe in a few categories.
Design, processing and the battery
The design of the Lumia 820 is due to the choice of color is a real eye-catcher, I acquired the Lumia 820 unfortunately only in black because it was otherwise available. However, I will change the color of one of the many interchangeable AC Cover to cyan, to that later. During processing of Nokias I was skeptical because I had a 5800 XM few years ago which already fell apart by itself, this skeptic but soon after I could hold it in his hand. The Lumia 820 is very well made and the battery cover sits very firmly in place and it wobbles nowhere something the buttons (Volume, On / Off and keylock and the camera shutter) have no unnecessary play. Due to the small gaps throughout the device also acts more like a unibody device. The battery reached for my taste very good values, my stops in daily use (SMS, Email, Internet, continuous synchronization) about 1.5 days by)
First Steps
The Windows Phone takes the user immediately to the hand and starts, as well as an installation wizard Android will lead you safely to the home screen, this already has some preset tiles. As a longtime Android user I am, of course, have to get used to the new service, but relatively quickly went and after a short settling-in period you have it for now its "tiles" arranged and its own start-up screen. My personal taste tends more present then the WP8 has the much better use than Android, but that's nunmal personal taste and everyone should decide this for themselves
Telephony (Addendum)
The reception of the smartphone is in the Hanover region in T-Mobile network also excellent voice quality and volume totally convincing thus the interlocutors also in noisy places such as a mall or a train station easy to understand.
Nokia Apps
Nokia Music, Nokia Drive Beta and the City compass. This reads all very well but does it work as good as promised?
Nokia Music is simply awesome thanks to the Mix Radio. Just as with Xbox Music's Smart DJ I can therefore let enter my favorite artist and the Mix Radio created me a playlist with matching other artists to my "main artist", works wonderfully so far and is also free.
Nokia Beta Drive I have been able to try 2 times (Car Holder bought as an accessory). The maps can be downloaded and stored on the internal memory. Thus, the navigation system also offline (eg abroad) is available. The guidance I can currently only be compared with the Galaxy S3, which uses Google's navigation. Here Google is subject to very clear the solution from Nokia. The Google Navigation has primarily no real voice as voice guidance (rather a robot) and confuses the driver with unnecessary instructions. Google advantage: Possibly more recent maps.
The City Compass has been used only once by me. This is the function in a city to find restaurants or shops, but you will start the app and then can be "live" on the screen, the transactions with the camera. All worked very well in central Hanover.
Features
NFC, LTE and induction charging, the induction charging has to be retrofitted. For this purpose an already Addressed exchange cover in various colors is necessary. The price is expected to amount to about 39.90 a charging station must be purchased separately (about 69.90). NFC works great, I can not test LTE because of my tariff.
Windows Phone 8
Many speak on inconsistencies in the system or that the whole does not quite round, that's true all well but you have to also note that this is a new system. Even Android was initially far from perfect and the system which has programmed since Microsoft is in my opinion nearly perfect and hope to Microsoft a few blocks away working.
Conclusion after one week
The Lumia 820 has pleasantly surprised me. Nokia has in my eyes finally realized how important smartphones today, and has the whole also well implemented, unfortunately, too late. I hope that the Lumia 820 and the big brother everywhere found 920 more followers in Germany and in the world, because that would have deserved it.
I hope I could help some in their decision still questions about the device should consist I answer that also like in the comments.

Addendum March 14, 2013
I had now plenty of opportunity to test the device and the review is now being expected to have 3 months ago. Up to this point has shown all that which says my previous review. The unit tells me to perfect. I had so far no crashes, but 2 inexplicable restart, but the problem seems to be known (Microsoft wanted to fix this "bug" in December, with me but is apparently not yet arrived).
The navigation function has now already repeatedly brought me safely to its destination and does its job very well and the "music flat rate" of Nokia I use very often because the mix radios produce and unknown artists.
The battery life has not diminished markedly by now 3 months.
This should be poor voice quality I have now been a few times to read, but I can not confirm who has this error probably be a defective device.
The conclusion of the first week keeps me now three months later. If Microsoft still mending the small mistakes you have here a solid smartphone even if the price is likely to discourage many yet.
