World on Fire (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Shortly beforehand: I'm a fan of Slash. I love GnR, call a Marshall AFD 100 my property and suck interviews, workshops and videos more or less in me. Four Slash / VV concerts are on my list of concerts. I probably belong as most buyers of this CD to people of all works and with Slash or (very modern) have in their CD shelf in your MP-3 library.

Of these CDs, the present by far the weakest. Why is that? Here you have to leave shortly to reminisce. Of Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion (especially the first part), the Snakepit era to Velvet Revolver and the new solo albums Mr. Hudson all have one thing in common: incredibly incisive riffs, especially in its initial stage paired with outstanding solo work. These great foundations took the respective frontmen for many great musical rock moments. Coupled was this musical madness (one need only recall "Serial Killer" from Is not Live Grand) with a special vibe that came about through the respective recording techniques. It just sounded "real" and dynamically (good example is also Apocalyptic Love, where you can literally feel the 100 Watt Marshall). While the solos have gained on this record compared to the repetitive Slash Lead Parts of "Slash" and "Apocalyptic Love" again tidy, but all the rest is lagging behind the:

I have the record now belongs by repeatedly attention and could previously only a reef give the predicate "memorable". It all sounds the same, Slash provides in particular in the rhythm parts nothing surprising or new. The "Lead" -Riffs sound either very similar or indistinguishable from other standard rock bands. The board would have probably done well to reduce the large number of songs on the essentials and here continue to work on the Licks. Unfortunately there are simply not sent me to tell. The Riffarbeit's just not particularly.

But the real crux of the board is Mr. Kennedy at the microphone. Except for World on Fire and Shadow Life this disc offers here just absolutely nothing. No catchy song, no epic "singalong" anthem, nothing. But Myles Kennedy is an incredibly gifted singer an uninspired musicians: One must not understand me wrong (!) (!). His way of playing with three or four octaves is impressive - though he has neither "Apocalyptic Love" still on "Slash" or the current album delivered a chorus worthy of the grade 1+ with distinction. Slash has meant in an interview that he and Myles were "equivalent" "Band" members of this project. Unfortunately Myles is this claim, even on the previous disc on which he in my opinion also delivers the weaker power, not justice. "Stop speaking and get to the chorus!" - The choruses as the most important components of a song simply disappoint across the board. But the verses rippling only as to himself. No "wow" - or "cool" effect - just interchangeable vocal lines.

The solo work has for significant gains in my opinion again. Was on the previous album still a repetitive Slash- "tooting" predominant what then but eventually wears out after nearly 30 years, the solos on this record again able to convince more. Small licks as hangers do the job interesting and memorable.

The recording sounds this time "fat", but somehow lifeless than the previous work of Slash. One misses the small rough edges, the "rough" element which gives the impression that the band play the same in the room next door.

All in all, there are only two of this Amazon Star.

(A short remark about rating scale:.. Five stars would earn my feeling an "Appetite for Destruction" or as an alternative Led Zeppelin's "IV" - but the album has to be an absolute masterpiece, this is not the case here Measured against this absolute standard are it therefore only two stars)
