Function with pitfalls

To digitize the MC Collection I bought this cassette player. Only tried it with battery, what is going well only when really full and fresh batteries, otherwise the player is really fast in the knee and droning, which would not be appropriate in the recordings. So a universal power supply hinzugekauft, since one side via a DC connection, the device can supply power. Then I connected the device via USB cable to the PC and not yet pressed the power adapter to the recorder, and start and lo and behold, not only sound, but also the power is supplied via the USB cable. Interestingly, run USB ports but with 5V and the DC connection only with 3V. Now I'm no electrician, but I do wonder why there are differences there, and if that was not also disadvantages in operation. Anyway, I no longer dared to join me both, so the power supply and USB cable. But I think to carry on USB power and signal would be worse on the quality of the impairment, as when connecting separate power and signal. As I said, due to the different voltage values ​​for operation with power supply (3V) and the USB cable (5V) I did not want to try this, but maybe there is an expert here and enlightens me.

Testhalber I have now taken different formats with the result that WAV an extremely large file created because of the very high kbit rate per second, the in-house recording function while indeed produces the smallest file, but with only 96 kbit / s and for me the optimal balance between resolution and file size that was FLAC format. Still a very high kbit rate of ~ 750kBit / s and accordingly also not too small file, but for my purposes just right, because I have so later when reworking or further conversion into other formats such as MP3 sufficient reserves as Flac already a lossless compression format and cassettes usually starting 128kBit / s will probably hear no difference to the original. More to the higher bit rate is anyway no longer get out of the old bands, but for the archive I have it first "unnecessary" in stored. You can hear every crackling, squeak loud and quieter places fluctuations in speed, etc., and then just after improved, but also sufficient so already for the nostalgic moment of :-)

I have and the type using the Headphone connection with connecting jack to jack line-in of the PC tried in the so without a USB cable, but the power supply off.
