Also have an "upgrade" of G12 performed on G16 and am very satisfied:
All comparisons based on G12:
- The autofocus works as compared to the pre-predecessor significantly quicker
- Burst shooting with approximately 9 frames / second (albeit only JPEG) can be a even a little bit taste towards sports photography - and the camera is directly usable again after the recording!
- Super light start with Blene F 1.8 - 2.8
- Noise has also continued to improve compared to the G12 - made put some pictures with my opinion very bad ISO values of ISO 800 and ISO 3200 and the noise really stays within limits for a Compact. Good 10x15 or 13x18 prints on paper also in such ISO values in my opinion is not a problem.
- WIFI on board is actually practical. - Had it only dismissed as a gimmick, but if you then but times will send a photo, you go via smartphone really quick and easy
- The pop-up flash can be a quick "toggle" between flash / no-flash to. Previously you had to always durchhangeln in the menu to turn off the Bitz a /
- Compared with the G12, the housing but become significantly smaller - but still the image quality in the usual Canon G - quality - and has visibly improved compared to G12
- As usual optical viewfinder (even if that is to be used only in emergencies)
- Manual Focus Highlighting is useful if you'd like to focus very closely
- Very nice features:
Cropping motifs with the "Unscharer background mode" even works quite well.
Shooting Star trails in the star mode - you can even experiment a bit
- "Flash" issue I take a look, based on the evaluation of the previous speaker:
The chosen subjects can be properly illuminated with the flash. No greenish or similar recognizable. - I am a mystery, as in two models of the same "error" should occur. Have the first birthday photographed with the camera behind me and with flash and the pictures were fine. However, I also tend - as it did in the days of the G12 - to reduce the flash normally (which is indeed possible) to not overexpose.
Video features are nice to have for me and ask for me not buying criterion is, however, have also improved:
- Zooming is possible during recording
- Autofocusing during recording
- Full HD support
Downer:
- No more folding screen - Since I've already pondered whether I change to ne P7800 ...
- My girlfriend missed the single-ColorPickUp function to get all black and white except for one color. Did she quite nice pictures with magic
All in all a solid tool with manual controls like a DSLR and a few creative gimmicks. Performance and quality have improved noticeably.
For me decisive selling points were:
- Very good for a compact camera Aperture
- The fast performance (sequential shots and focusing)
- The size of the camera
- Of course, the image quality
- In retrospect the WiFi capability
