At the reception (fast as usual with Amazon), I installed the Samsung Data migration software included in the box.
By plugging the SSD in a small USB-SATA external enclosure (8 on Amazon, which also allow you to put your future-old HDD later as backup HDD), the latter clone your entire current HDD to SSD. If you have multiple partitions on your HDD and especially a larger HDD (320GB for me), you can easily resize the partitions so that it enters the SSD (I bought a 256GB). The copying any software, no problem for the Windows 7 license and other licenses of your professional software. After 3 hours of copying, the SSD is ready to be installed as the primary disk in the PC.
From the first boot, the magic happens: 20sec to boot Windows and software that launch at startup !!
All icons next to the clock load instantly, and after 5sec the mouse pointer with the hourglass disappears: Windows is launched and ready to work!
Office suites or Adobe, energy-intensive and that put 10 to 20 sec to load, now putting 5sec to launch.
Everything is faster: copy and paste, and opening large files, heavy manipulation in Excel, automatic backups in Office on big files that blocked me 5min 30sec all, handling in Acrobatx, etc ... In professional terms, I I can say damn increased my productivity.
By installing the Samsung Magician software, it tells me the SATA management is not optimized for the SSD (disabled AHCI mode). Without documentation, I struggled a bit to activate it (finally in BIOS, but it depends on the PC actually). Also, as jutilisais deep sleep with my old Windows HDD to make it faster to start, I was shocked to see my empty battery after one night. An SSD is not done to manage this mode in Windows. Given the speed at startup, it is better simply turn off his PC.
In conclusion, this is happiness. The price remains high, but I think it is worth the candle in productivity in a professional use.
Now, I am lobbying to our CIO to get it going SSD in the business !!!
