Actually, I have this cable release only ordered a direct comparison with the AmazonBasics IR remote release for Nikon SLR digital cameras to have.
I had to reserve the right to only one of the two, but because of the low price, I now keep both.
The processing of the cable release is good, the release button has a good tactile feedback so that you can be first focus well before triggers. The finding of the "Bulb" mode also done a good service.
If you want to find a point of criticism then you could say that the cable is perhaps a bit too stiff, but that could possibly eh fix after repeated use by itself.
Who does not know exactly where the functional difference between a cable release as this is and an IR trigger (such as this: AmazonBasics IR remote release for Nikon digital SLR cameras) which I can also help. The difference is in the maximum exposure time. With an IR remote release can be at the Nikon D5100 "only" 30 minutes long exposure, with cable release, however, as long as one has found the shutter, so like all long battery!
Whether this behavior applies to all cameras but I do not know, please look here in their own operating instructions!
