The image results are top. Whether directly or indirectly flashed over the iTTL-control, it always comes to very good results. The flash is very easy to use because it has on the back of only 5 well-operated, and backlit buttons. An LCD display is not available.
Substituting the flash to the camera and turn on the flash, the flash automatically enters the TTL flash control, which means that the flash is controlled by the camera. If you change the focal length of the zoom lens, as is almost the same time the power zoom as the "focal length" on the flash unit after. This happens very, very quickly and pleasantly quiet.
The flash head can be left and right and also as swing up and down, so you can flash indirectly. Also folds out an additional diffusion plate and pull out a reflector card from the flash head.
Furthermore, you can change the flash mode to manual and therefore adjust the flash output in 4 stages. Even as a slave you can use the Metz 44. That means you can take the flash from the camera and remotely detonate kalbellos.
Even the modeling light is working properly, as well as the AF-assist illuminator.
The build quality is quite good although the plastic used does not act so wertig as the polycarbonate housing the Nikon D90.
Measured against the Nikon SB600 the Metz 44 AF-1 is about 120 euros cheaper and dominates all other similar functions. For me, more than an alternative, especially since I have collected always pretty good experience with Metz flash units in the past.
The ease of use and the range of services for relatively low price for me were the main reasons to buy the Metz 44. I do not regret the decision.
