- The optics provides a nice plan, sharp, bright and high-contrast image.
- The Minimum focusing distance is much less than indicated in the product description (good versus 2m 3m).
- The processing is generally good.
- The plastic eyecups have a soft rubber coating that also protects plastic lenses.
- The binoculars are also very suitable for eyeglass wearers who have experienced little reduction of the visual field and other optical properties.
- In principle, all the other properties of these binoculars have a positive effect on me - except for the below mentioned points.
A few minor points there are still:
- For me not quite understandable reasons, this binocular can not keep so quiet, such as a Leica Trinovid 10x42. Possibly is the latter binoculars due to its higher weight but better in the hand, or the slightly larger field of view (112 m at the Leica over 105 m with the Nikon HG) is responsible.
- The external lenses (objective and ocular lenses) shod quite fast when the temperature changes, more than Zeiss and Leica and even as the Nikon Monarch. The type of compensation appears to play a role.
- The 3-stage locking the rotating eyecups out is too easy. So it can happen once, they dissemble when passing watching. For eyeglass wearers but that is irrelevant. Possibly the eyecups somewhat susceptible to sand that has to prove still.
- The eye cup can not be removed like other models / exchange (to have to send the binoculars to Nikon).
- A very slight color cast (? Red) exists, but makes hardly noticeable.
- The focusing system is a bit too quickly accessible. This can indeed focus more quickly, but can the accuracy to it.
- The supplied strap is indeed upholstered with leather, but way too narrow. It is therefore advisable to create a better support system.
Contrary to assertions otherwise is quite a full step ahead of this binocular optical optically quite useful Nikon Monarch in its properties and processing. This should be at the additional price, but can also be expected.
All in all a (for nature observation) recommendable binoculars that certainly is an alternative to the above-described top glasses of highly renowned manufacturer already due to its rather lower price. Nikon has so caught up neatly!
Addendum: A point deduction in the assessment because of the following shortcomings:
- Meanwhile, the binoculars no longer looks like a top binoculars, but as a 50-EUR-glass. The rubber coating has been greatly worn, that happens when the well-known manufacturers such as Zeiss (no longer).
- The command dial for the sheep position can no longer be rotated in certain positions without resistance, because the rubber coating on the reinforcement strips (no longer 100% pass justice).
- The rubber coating of the eyecups had come loose. My attempt this coating failed to order from Nikon. These eyecups are no longer available. Apparently this is where not even half a year old binoculars around on the way out and at the end the customer is the loser!
Conclusion: If you value good service and external appearance of his binoculars, should he prefers shopping in Zeiss & Co ...
