My tester has recommended to me with this book to learn and so far I am very satisfied. The book is comprehensive and clear and has a lot of graphics to better understand and color-coded boxes with additional information or summaries. It begins with the most basic genetic underpinnings of explains again briefly important techniques in the laboratory everyday life and goes into model organisms, population genetics, and diagnosis and treatment of disease. Some felt it would be almost too much detail, but one speaks before starting you need to know and what is not. I think the book is great to quickly look something up again for later.
