I'm a big fan of this author, everything she wrote in general (even if I do not read everything). Yet it took me a few chapters to get back in this series. I begin this review with advice: read this volume shortly after reading the original trilogy (which is génialissime). We find the universe so rich in the original trilogy, with the hierarchy of the gems and power in the hands of women. But beware, men are not helpless, just as all women are queens. Here we follow the story of Jared, sex slave by a twist of fate. Of murder, it is bought in a slave market by the Grey Lady, one of the most powerful queen of the country. But quickly, he wondered about the queen who leads his slaves on a journey on foot through an infested area of brigands. If I guessed some details quickly, the author still managed to surprise me on other twist. I also liked the person who Jared is both raw, wild and at the same time fragile and with honor. The character of the Queen is a little too blurry for my tastes. While this serves the plot because the drive is mainly in the head of Jared, but I would still have liked a little more on his personality. The end is full of revelations and twists and compensates a generally slow volume (although pleasant). In short, always the happiness in the world of Black Jewels!
