The Very Best of the Beach Boys (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The songs of the Beach Boys are the best thing in the 60s (and even in the 70s) was produced in the pop music, and a Best Of CD belongs in any CD collection, in addition to "1" by the Beatles , The Very Best Of The Who and perhaps "40 Licks" by the Stones.
Selection of Songs: 30 songs on a CD is already worth a praise (the Best Of The Beach Boys CDs included in the US only 20). All the big hits are top course, and also a number of smaller from the early years. Personally, I would definitely In My Room, The Warmth Of The Sun, The Little Girl I Once Knew, Til I Die and Sail On Sailor expected and instead Little Honda, Then I Kissed Her (the original of the Crystals is better) , Wild Honey, Rock'n'Roll Music (a pitiful cover version of the Chuck Berry classic) and Lady Lynda deleted, but that is subjective. None of the 5 I mentioned song was a hit, but they are classics and are played by Brian Wilson in his tours.
Song quality: Good, but mono (up to I Can Hear Music, Breakaway, Rock'n'Roll Music, Lady Lynda and Kokomo). It must be said that the songs all came out in the original in Mono, on LP and Single. These were the mixes that Brian Wilson himself (or along with Chuck Britz) has produced, and which should remain the definitive versions. Stereo versions are either "Duphonic Fake Stereo" from the '60s (sound terribly), or remixes from the 90s, although they sound great, but it is no longer original. Help Me Rhonda particular and Barbara Ann (mentioned by the reviewers below) have never been published in stereo (and technically that's not readily possible because some of the original Mehrspurentonbänder no longer exist). I myself often find the mono versions better than the new stereo versions (the example, there is the Pet Sounds-pieces).
Barbara Ann is here the original single version, so do not "mangled". A longer version can be found on the album "Party".
Who buys this CD or bought, the CD "Classics - Selected By Brian Wilson" should look by the Beach Boys. Some of the songs are the same as here, but the "Classics" always uses the stereo version, if available (eg, Surfin 'USA, Sloop John B., God Only Knows), and it contains some of the lesser known but excellent songs by Brian Wilson, such as Busy Doin 'Nothin', This Whole World and Til I Die.
The albums of the Beach Boys, I would like to warmly. Specially Pet Sounds (erhätlich with a complete mono and a full stereo version on a CD !!!), Today and Summer Days (And Summr Nights) (available as an 2 albums on a CD), and Sunflower and Surf's Up.
