In general, there are several possibilities:
* Normal USB extension for Active
* All 5 meters interpose a powered USB hub
* Very expensive equipment ("Extender") that can do this
* USB over LAN extension
At first I was very unsure about the latter method, since it is not feasible to my technical knowledge as easy.
But the other methods also secreted from: About normal USB extensions hear only negative, active USB hubs are expensive, or otherwise cause problems and also often only the good Extender are just too expensive.
I chose this product because it compared to other USB-over-LAN extensions clearly has the best reviews.
Meanwhile, I think I know the reason:
Says on the box that plugs stuck in the small ICs that ensure interference-free transmission and take over the conversion from USB to LAN. I would imagine that this exact method is not usually applied to the competitors, which is why this often have problems. Certainly, however, I'm not in the point.
I tested at 15m extension:
* Mouse
* Logitech Bluetooth Access Point in conjunction with a Bluetooth keyboard
* Passive USB 1.1 Hub with Mouse and Keyboard (same as above) together
* Mobile (SE K800i)
The above configurations, all works fine.
Attention! The product supports only USB 1.1 (says on the box in the English specification). USB 2.0 gets you probably. with luck to run.
The Note. For my part, as I've seen here and also for competitors often negative reviews due to the non-functioning operation with USB 2.0 devices.
But you can not really expect from this part and there will be in this price range also so fast no alternative!
Conclusion:
For the extension of a printer, mouse, keyboard recommended completely. Good price / performance ratio.
