Joe Bonamassa: Live from New York - Beacon Theatre (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Joe Bonamassa presents a publication pace, which actually must lead eventually to a complete supersaturation of his fans. The latest publication is the second window of his New York appearance at the Beacon Theatre. Beacon Theatre - Live From New York was published in March 2012 as a DVD.

As Bonamassa fan you do with this double CD is actually nothing wrong. Joe Bonamassa sings fantastic, his guitar sound heard, in my opinion, the best currently and his band playing terrific on.

Bonamassa plays out across its broad array of original songs and also attacks from time to time like to known standards back. In particular, his version of Leonard Cohen's classic "Bird On A Wire" already developed some goosebumps. Particularly worth hearing are the moments where he asks his guest vocalist Beth Hart, John Hiatt and Paul Rodgers onstage. All three missed the concert their very own touch. While Beth Hart brings her soulful voice, John Hiatt expresses his appearance on "Down Around My Place" and "I Know A Place" significantly towards country and folk. Paul Rodgers, however, appears firmly rooted in the blues rock.

The track list is the DVD version is almost identical. Only the song "If Heartaches Were Nickels" came about. On the DVD, this song has been hidden in the bonus section. Highlights of the concert, the two overlong songs "Mountain Time" and "Young Man Blues". What Bonamassa is rausholt here from his Les Paul already big ears cinema.

In the end the question remains who Beacon Theatre - Live From New York really needs. Who the DVD has been on the shelf that does not require the double CD actually, all other are now faced with the decision whether or not the CD or DVD you can treat yourself. I for one would opt for the DVD, which does not mean that the now released double CD is bad, but the DVD provides more entertainment for only a small extra cost!
