Although the equipment compared to its big brothers seemed a bit thin, so I have to admit that the ASUS RT-N18U cuts very well in daily use.
The lack of 5GHz WLAN was in my case, not a criterion for exclusion, because the only units that have benefited from the wider range are hung into the network anyway wired.
Otherwise, the wireless coverage is quite good thanks to the 3 antennas and wireless repeaters, which I installed earlier this year to grab the predecessor unit under arms has now once intermission. The guest WLAN function also knows how to please, because so friends can go with me with their smartphones online without scour my PC or my media collection ;-).
Via the web interface of the RT-N18U is easy to set up. All connections and setup a USB HDD ran smoothly, and streaming media content also runs smooth, even with videos in Full HD.
I would have liked but that also the rear USB port USB 3.0 support. That would have allowed to wire the router on the shelf a bit more discreet, and to have a front USB when required for USB sticks or similar free.
Bottom line, the ASUS RT-N18U has so far been a good acquisition, and towards the Noname device that was with my DSL connection while the ASUS device is as different as day and night, both in the user guide as well as the range of functions.
And would get if the AiCloud App donated in the future Chromecast support, the whole package would be even more attractive. Until then, I use the Media server functions on the TV first of all have a slightly older media player, which then but could go into his well-deserved retirement.
Bottom line: If you can do without the latest standards, you get the ASUS RT-N18U a good all-rounder with solid multimedia capabilities. Since the device is as I said technically not quite up to date, and it would have been even better in the terminal equipment from me it overall 4 stars because the router though everything delivers what it promises, but still room for improvement is.
