For handling: The walimex pro 12mm makes the Sony NEX very
good figure. It is surprisingly small, handy, light and feels very
quality on. Use does so ever fun.
For picture quality is very good. Not outstanding, just as I, for example,
14mm know of the great Walimex but quite be described as good.
Toward the edge sharpness falls off very violent and has distortion.
This may be due to the small focal length - nice but it is not. There
the lens does not even indicate the lens in the Exifsdaten, you can also
make no automatic correction with RAW processing software. The
Software not know what lens was used. I find that very
annoying.
For manual focusing: This works on the Sony NEX, the prime function
Peaking wonderful. I was concerned that the one with this lens
Function can not be used - that was unfounded. With the peaking
the in-focus areas with colored outlines in the display / viewfinder.
For me, yellow color has put here as the most universal out. And with this
Function is manual focusing a breeze.
Positives:
- Very small and light
- Focusing soft and not too hard, nor too light
- Good sharp images
- By the light intensity even exemptions are possible
- Pleasant bokeh
Negatives:
- Missing Exifs make processing the RAWs complicated
- Sensitive in backlight. Also hood cuts not really flares
- Unfortunately not suitable for infrared
Conclusion. All in all a very nice and fast lens for landscapes,
Architecture and unusual perspectives. I would not have SEL1650, then
I would keep it well. Especially since it has a very good size for the NEX.
But since I am looking for a wide-angle for infrared photography, it's not for me
right. Because, unfortunately, also causes the SEL1650 hotspots, I have now with the
Sigma 19mm ART decided that for IR images is perfect as complete
Hotspot free.
