The disappointment started when I tried to print from my (Windows 8.1) from computer to contact. A search for new devices on the network failed. Then I pushed the CD in the drive. The software contained on it is not signed, resulting in a warning that the software is a security risk and should not be executed. Having ignored the warning to let the printer driver, either with or without a USB cable persuade itself (which in turn switched and was visible on the network) to the printer in Wi-Fi to connect. Particularly badly I found that the buttons were not activated in the software, with which I in one case, the SSID and the other IP address could enter. The support pages had except "Try everything off and back on" to offer any solutions. Only after several restarts of the driver Installationsprogams (the back buttons were disabled in the appropriate places) I was able to enter the IP address manually. You have to select the radio button for installation without a USB cable, and also mark the check box "Custom Setup". Only then did the installer had successfully quit. However, the installed with the driver Status Monitor reported that the printer is offline. Only after I had installed on the status monitor a newer firmware version for the printer (which worked amazingly, over the network, even though the printer is shown as offline), the status of the device is displayed correctly. Would be better if the printer would come out even on WSD on the network and you could about installing the drivers. Then you could save installing the Crapware also.
In the interim test the WLAN driver installation by USB cable I noticed that the printer by connecting the USB cable detected by the operating system and the correct driver is installed automatically. About USB I would therefore be able to print without any incidents. It was interesting in this context that the driver installation software simultaneously claiming that no USB cable is connected.
So after updating the firmware (now the printer incidentally detected via WSD) I can print a page and find the result as good as expected.
Due to the good design, solid workmanship and not least of impeccable print image I'm still a big fan of Brother printers in general, and this model would recommend in particular. The really bad abyss software driver installation deserves however tidy scolding. But anyone who has fought once since by, or connect the printer via USB, sure has a solid device at a good price.
