The delivery was there within 2 days.
After unpacking, I was first struck by the Quälitätsanmutung of housing and the built-in chassis (in relation to the price, of course)!
After the first test tones, but it soon became clear that something was wrong with a box (totally distorted bass)! As it turned out, the diaphragm of the woofer was not clean centered! Short Mail to Mr. Mohr and after not even 48 hours I got delivered a replacement woofer!
But this was unfortunately not quite ok (again decentered cone, rubber surround incorrectly glued to the basket), I've got it but then relatively easily repaired itself get.
Mr. Mohr has assured me then to pass the error to the production and in particular to check the adhesion of the rubber surround of the woofer.
So the service of the company. I'm Mohr times very impressed !!!
But now the speaker himself (caution, much technical Kauderwelch ;-)!):
1) construction
Both midrange (each 4 ohms) are connected in series and operate in a separate sealed chamber. Here I would want a little more insulation.
The turnout of the midrange is very simple (a coil and an electrolytic capacitor in series => 6dB / oct down and up, since the aluminum () -..? Membranes exhibit distinct membrane resonances between about 5 and 10 kHz, these are hardly damped by the gentle filter.
The crossover frequency for HT is about 3 kHz. The HT itself is 12dB / oct. docked and the filter even has a pretty noble MKP capacitor! Respect !!
The woofer in a vented enclosure and runs to about 500 Hz with (12 dB / oct. Low-pass).
The midrange run to less than 200 Hz, and thus a good bit parallel with the woofers - hmmm ...
Should to commend you still bi-wire / -Amping enabled speaker terminal, even if it's not exactly a high-end version!
2) Sound
Sonically, I was not very satisfied. For my taste the deep and fundamental range of loudspeakers was too thickened and the treble lacked liveliness.
So I as an old boxing Bauer measured by the parts times ;-)
3) measurements (frequency response measurements)
2 things are particularly struck me: The little cheeky bass / fundamental range to about 500 Hz and a distinct frequency response sink to 3 kHz.
The single chassis made by measurement an amazingly good figure - with surprisingly "smooth" frequency responses for this price range!
Only the mid-point as said diaphragm resonances 5-10 kHz, but what is normal for hard Mebranmaterialien. These resonances One should actually filter away by suitable barrier or resonant circuits in the switch - but this is understandably impossible to achieve at a unit price of 80 / box. Together with a (sensible in my view) additional coil for a steeper separation of MT down 4 other components in the switch would be to that is already at least. Necessary ...
4) modifications
I then tried to get added with as little effort as a balanced frequency response.
First of all I have reversed the tweeter and the series resistance of HT reduced from 4.7 to 2.2 ohms. Thus the valley at 3 kHz was almost veschwunden and the frequency response from 500 Hz quite balanced.
Furthermore, I have the low-pass of the woofer by desolder an electrolytic capacitor of 12 dB / oct. at 6 dB / oct. changed. The frequency response of the TT thus falls to the high frequencies somewhat flatter and smoother and fits MMN better for highpass the midrange. So then the aufgedickte fundamental range was largely corrected.
Then in a little add. Insulation material the midrange chambers and in the woofer's Baßgehäuse below and you have a fairly balanced tonal, still baßkräftigen, honest in the centers and upbeat speakers with tangy but still pleasant heights!
If positioned near a wall I'd personally Baßreflexrohre on the rear panel even close (eg, a couple of old, washed! Socks cram).
Those interested in details about my measurements should please even the hi-Forum under the heading "Do it yourself" - see> "Speaker" ... ;-)
5) Conclusion:
Hmm, not so easy ...
When standing alone the speakers for the price are to use well, at least if you're on a rather warm sound.
For me it would but nothing - so I would give only 3 points of the speakers.
Since the chassis but certainly have potential for more and bring small changes to the switch already noticeable improvements (if you know how to handle a soldering iron), I'll give you 4 points. At this price, the LS15 is really hard to beat in this case!
Another point I would forgive even for the great service of the company. Mohr, but here it's done so only to the product review ... ;-)
Greeting
