The NAS was equipped with two Western Digital AAKS 500MB drives that were configured as RAID 0. That's about the least useful configuration for a NAS, because in the event of drive failure once all the data is gone. First, we must therefore solve the RAID 0, this will erase all data to the factory preset "Info" folder. Unfortunately, the device supports not JBOD, so it is not possible to exchange only one hard drive to increase the capacity problems. For me quite a problem. For music and movies do not fit together on the later and additionally installed 1 GB disk. Therefore, I have no choice but to stream music or movies. Because all the data for the media player must be in the same directory.
The Hard Would rather not so convincing: The small 5 cm fan is noisy cheerfully to himself even when the NAS is not charged. In working or living room so anything goes at all. The factory-installed drives are more of the noisy variety, but that one can change by exchange. The high standby consumption of 4 watts (off mode!) The device does not meet the European standards. The manufacturer therefore has settled an adapter plug with switch, because one should as far as possible not to use (these things dissolve easier than you might think!). The included network cable (unshielded) should not use. It is so bad that (reproduced at two different gigabit switches) not even allowed to call 7 the configuration page in the browser under Windows with me. This went on until I shielded CAT 6 cable used.
The writing speed is (always in a network with gigabit switches from TP-Link and with appropriate wiring) with no more than 12 MB to describe / second only grotto slowly. That was (shown under Win 7 and felt) the speed when copying large and small files on the NAS. Opposite to the manufacturer this is not even half. With jumbo frames, the device was not here, but crashed reproducibly. The cause of this Schwächeleien in networking I do not like further explore because our network runs well otherwise. For backups that's really something little. Writing a 5-10 GB backup file is there to torment.
Firmware was dated, timed shutdown does not work yet. I would have expected either better performance or lower power consumption / noise. So the device is rather dispensable.
