I'm here now compose my very first review and the same product at a much discussed - the WeTab 3G. I'll try the whole here as objectively as possible, even if I am a member of the WeTab community (who has an iPad will probably be in an Apple / iPad community, right?).
Furthermore, I can not and will not make any comparisons to the iPad and other tablets
1) because I have no other to compare them
2.) because the WeTab is completely open, unlike the competition from the Linux system.
But let's leave that and come to report.
-General-
I decided to purchase this tablet almost a year ago, because I wanted to have a future replacement FRR my Webbook / Netbook (netbook bitchy rum increasingly, has, however, laid back).
For me personally, did not a product of Apple (without wanting something bad-talk) due to the quite closed system (which has advantages and disadvantages) in question. The price was frankly a not very small role; o)
After several test reports on the net and a "direct contact" with this major electronics dealer (MM), I opted for the WeTab 3G.
The WeTab I then bought in large electronic bay (one may call the name here?) And have it received in the normal state of delivery.
The whole technical. Data and what is in the box I can save here now; should already be known or here on Amazon you can read the whole thing.
-first impression-
At the processing is nothing to complain. Gaps are all the same (nothing varies) and otherwise rattles, squeaks or groans nothing on WeTab case.
What I, however, like many others noticed was the weight. Not exactly a lightweight like other tablets, but I do not want to carry around all day the thing yes, but surf so in bed, on the sofa, in the garden, on the train, in the car (as a passenger), reading, writing e-mails, photos watch (or pull from my camera to ne external HDD) look or movies. So on with the text ...
First me all the connections have noticed that I've missed in other tablets in MM (USB, etc).
The housing has to be a slightly wider margin to one possibly could have made narrower or if you need the size of the inner life, can make the display even one or two millimeters larger. As annoying but I felt this edge not really.
The rubberised (?) Back, the tablet is comfortable to hold and also threatens not it sliding.
Apart from the weight times looked the part out of the box pretty classy and surprised me with the rather large screen.
-Betrieb-
As called for in the Quick Start Guide I connected the power adapter and the tablet started to make it the first update can be loaded.
Is not exactly brilliant, when you acquire a new product and then only times the wait is 20-25 minutes until you can use it, but hey, do not be helped and should represent even for novices thanks.
First, the touch screen was not really very, let's say cooperative. On the wipers he reacted delayed and very sluggish. So it behaved when changing programs back on the wall. Pressing Halfway, wait a sec ...
After all updates now the touchscreen runs smoothly and start programs without delay.
As for the point of view I can confirm that he is somewhat limited. But as a tablet, I think, is yes anyway usually used by one person and then looks very likely probably head to the display. Want me to show someone something, I'll give him just the whole unit over. And to use it in the bus / train is ok but when the neighbor the same read along or look anything can not.
The Market was a year ago (and even now still not quite) not so plump. Not very many programs / apps available, and some or many are "only" links on websites. As I would have expected more far - see Android Market.
Very good, I find that so far every one of my hard drives and USB sticks were recognized without any problems, as well as SD and SDHC cards. Experiments with mouse and keyboard made no problems. Very nice, I also found that the tablet has enough power display on my LCD TV via the mini HDMI connection Videos in 720p / 1080p and fluid play. The sound is passed without any problems via the HDMI cable to the TV.
When using a SIM card (for Internet) I had to find only that one (which was incidentally detected no problems at the very beginning) first had the Wi-Fi off manually, so that the WeTab recognize the SIM and thus build up a network connection can. Something like this should go automatically and no longer do it by hand to be these days.
Write Some people here that the speakers so "thin" sound and (if you believe the reports) the fan developed a soundscape like a tornado.
All I can say:
The speakers bring stereo sound and if I want to hear it even better, then I take the headphones. I find recommended for use in bus, train, car, etc.
When fan I've only asked me where should be, since I have no remarks. Either I was so loud, the speakers or the fan was simply too low.
Battery I want to say that I have all not yet so so tested and have not yet fully exhausted. Bin far with surfing via Wi-Fi to approximately
4.5 hours Operating come. Had I the tab via HDMI to the television, I could (if I have the brightness turned down completely almost 2) See me so in about 1.5 movies - so so about 2-3 hours. I find degrees so still ok.
-Fazit-
The whole thing is and remains a gimmick, and can not replace a laptop.
Personally, I see those tablets as second or even third computer.
The approach of the WeTab in itself I think is very good because it has an open structure (Linux) and also the hardware could just as well be in a netbook.
This makes it easy to upgrade (RAM, SSD).
One, for my eyes big sticking point, however, is still the market (even if I can use with the Linux OS Apps from the complete Linux world). So far, I find that the WeTab rather what is for "hobbyist" and those that are in the Linux world at home. Thus, it deters many potential mainstream buyers who then resort to other tabs.
Hence the (actually 3.5) 3 stars.
Personally, I would soon equip my WeTab with 2GB RAM and possibly upgrade to a 80GB SSD. I really am not a Linux man (I install a program rather by clicking on an installation routine than by "cryptic" Linux Commands) I will probably install a Windows 7 or this preview version of Windows 8 times. Help additonally a lot in the community.
If all this should work, the assessment will be on 4 to VLT. even 5 star increase.
Simply announce to questions.
Thank you have read through this long report until the end.
Suggestions for improvement constructive way concerning the writing of the report I am open and grateful and will then try in coming reports these improvements to be considered with.
Update 10/07/2012:
In the meantime, I have upgraded the WeTab with 2GB RAM and a 80GB SSD.
Has thanks to the support forum works without major problems.
First, in addition to the WeTab OS was Windows 7 installed. Meanwhile, I have an Android version and the latest Windows 8 - trial alongside the original OS installed (Windows 7 is back down).
Android runs until now not really smooth on the Tab. This is what I want but rather slide on the not really adapted to the x86 architecture Android version as on the WeTab itself.
The Windows 8 trial against runs smoothly and is easy to operate via the touch screen. The hardware of the WeTab is thus cope very well.
My conclusion persists and has not changed. The hardware is and remains good; the software needs to be "screwed".
Update 7/17/2013:
Windows 8 still runs smoothly on the WeTab and is actually quite good by touch input use. Only here and there I wish then but a mouse cause - move multiple files, etc. - but then it has nothing to do with the WeTab se.
Battery life has not changed until now.
Conclusion: so
