Linux (here Raspberry PI Raspbian), the USB dongle behaves well if you use it as a wireless client to connect to an existing network.
By cons can not be used for an AP with "hostapd".
It uses the Realtek RTL8191SU chipset realtek and unfortunately does not provide version hostapd compile as explained Adafruit: [...]

... So to avoid an AP.
