Have him tested on Arduino Uno. Sorry, does not work with the finished 10DOF package of Adafruit because there other ICs are installed. Unfortunately, there is no other completely finished code package for the Arduino. One finds, however quickly the individual libraries for the chips on the relevant pages as Arduino Adafruit, for L3G4200D eg "FRAMER".
Have the sources just now all times tested on the machine and get consistently plausible values of all four chips / five sensors. The downloaded library examples ran with me to adapt the baud rate immediately. Returned values are naturally very "fidgety". Smoothing / soothing and calibration have to knit himself.
Conclusion: if you "fast times" a pack of sensors for the Arduino needs, their demo code instantly-usable values, is probably Anderso indeed served more expensive but better. But to fiddle it is a very nice toy.
