Delivery - as always - super fast next day. So unpack and out for a spin. The keyboard is really a very high-quality impression, not least because the stainless steel base, which frames the whole technique of super-slim keyboard perfectly. On the bottom you will find a semi-circular channel made of plastic, which both the two AAA batteries (included) and the tiny USB receiver receives during transport; this also serves as a kind of raising the flat keyboard, so that the angle to the wrists adjusts accordingly. Also located there is the small slide switch, with which the keyboard can be switched off when not in use to conserve battery power.
Genial is especially compactness, with virtually all the buttons of a full computer keyboard including all function keys have been packed in this small format without restricting the usability. Typing with 10-finger system is working properly and seems better managed than most notebook keyboards. Even the shift keys and the Enter key is present in the normal size and contribute to this good tip-in performance significantly - super. Multimedia functions are implemented as with many laptops via a function key combination (Fn) key, and clearly marked by orange symbols and clearly visible.
The keyboard is detected after plugging the tiny USB receiver immediately; installing drivers is not required. The range of the radio connection is properly and works well at a distance, z. B. in operation of a living room PCs with no dropouts without any problems.
Well, now time has come: how well does because this unique combination of numeric keypad and touchpad?
The available surface is relatively large for a touch pad, the surface is a little unusual rough, but can be for a small period of acclimatization quite well use. The surface is sensitive; So it is not a wild hammering of needs to perform a mouse click. However, it is by the rough surface sometimes difficult to place the cursor quickly to the right place.
And then inevitably the moment in which you are looking for the typical mouse control options. The single or double is to establish by the corresponding tap the Touchpadfläche still, but what about the simulation of the Right, scrolling, marking or even zooming?
The functions are actually all possible, but I had also once go on searching until I had all found:
1. The right mouse button: you will be simulated by simultaneously tapping with 3 fingers on the pad
2. Highlight: This goes through the two-time a single finger tap, which is allowed to remain in this 2nd time on the pad and moves on to be marked point.
3. Scroll (ie the scroll bars move): simply swipe 2 fingers on the pad; either up and down or sideways.
4. Zoom: underline hold down Alt Gr key with 2 fingers up or down
The whole thing is to first take some getting used to, but it works with every minute of usage better and faster.
Not to forget is the ability to use the recognizable at the bottom of the touch pad Sliders (similar to the iPhone) to switch the Touch Pad on the numeric keypad with all the surrounding keys. Especially for someone who is used to enter numbers on this block of ten, this feature is very helpful, although the input of course can not take place as quickly as with a real keyboard; the keys are not individually felt. The successful switch by stroking the slider by the way, acknowledged by the flashing of a small, red LED; it flashes either once or twice in order to distinguish the respective calibration. An existing power saving function is obviously also available; with a slightly longer pause between the inputs you have to first press any key to activate back to the touchpad.
Last but not least it should be mentioned that this great keyboard is even recognized by Android devices (USB host function provided). Both of my Samsung SGS3 and on my Asus Tablet SL101 and even an Android minicomputer stick for the TV the keyboard was recognized without difficulty and could as an external keyboard and be used as a touch pad operates correctly - super!
It remains to note that Rapoo has truly created an exceptional input device here that is looking at this size with their input diversity of their peers. As a replacement for a conventional keyboard, it is certainly not intended, but for the operation of a HTPC in the living room or even of different mobile devices is certainly an interesting alternative. With illuminated buttons they would for the darkness of course optimal, but I also feel as if well managed and will keep it. For some getting used to use the touchpad but it is fair to deduct a star; that is certainly not for everyone.
