The Rhythm of the Saints (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Paul Simon has consistently gone on his way, which he has taken with the album Graceland. Were the pieces still full of raw creativity, so is The Rhythm of the Saints with a more polished diamonds compared to its predecessor. Everything fits together better than before, it sounds as if Simon would always just make music. In addition, there are many more notable tracks, where very good ideas underlie. One of them is Run But Can not. A very good sound is of a groove of percussion, a bass and a kind of xylophone (?) Created, to which one can only congratulate the engineer. For only this groove produced in a very short time a very pleasant atmosphere, in which you can, for example, imagine a safari or a boat trip through a jungle well. But this is, as always with verbal descriptions of music, only a weak approximation of what there really is created. About this based Simon, as all over the CD sings relatively expressionless, almost anti-melody. Nothing you could sing, but just right for the song. Also noteworthy is Further to Fly, in which the brilliant guitar along with the melody of Simon make up the piece. Performed by two guitars, one of them plays a Brazilian (?) Musicians and a Ringo Starr (!). Unfortunately, I do not know who the genius part is thanks to ... There's more good pieces whose strength lies mainly in the intense atmosphere that they convey. Person in charge of the sound was also brave enough to often use a lot of Hall, which was very important for the entire work. Only one Deesser for singing would not have hurt. This CD does not live so much of choirs as Graceland, but all about the creativity of the musicians involved. Very peculiar, but very worth listening to.
