Other features and performance:
Other features of the Asus Transformer Book T300FA include a 12.5-inch, clear glass - IPS display with a resolution of "only" 1366 x 768 pixels. Individual pixels can be produced from next observation (10 cm) still recognize, but the resolution is definitely for 12.5 inches nor appropriate. I could watch HD footage in very good image quality. Also, the viewing angle is fine, only the brightness can be viewed from the side on to something.
As processor power-saving Intel Core M-5Y10 (dual-core processor with HT function) is used, which works up to 2 GHz with 0.8 GHz base clock and Turbo. This 4 GB of RAM are set aside. Sure, the 64 GB iSSD supports performance. One doubts almost if the unit shuts down really correct. The explicit shutdown on the corresponding menu item only takes about 2 seconds to boot up the operating system about 6 seconds. The team provides a total of brisk work under Win 8.1. All actions on the device go liquid by equip. Incidentally, is actually an SSD type "SanDisk i110" fitted with 64 GB, which can write within 0.4 ms access time with a maximum of 417MB / s read and 163 MB / s (AS SSD Bench.)
The gaming performance of the integrated Intel HD 5300 is rather marginal to look for modern games to very low. In benchmark "Cinebench R15" reaches the unit max. 17.02 fps (OpenGL) and 150 points (CPU). In 3D market in 2011 to reach 556 meters (492 graphics; 1834 physics and 523 Combi). The wifi was very fast with me in the nearest router nearby (2 meters) and I could with up to 8.5 MB / s (Windows Display) receive data. On the back of the tablet are still an on / off switch, a Windows button, a speaker, and the volume rocker. The speaker delivers the usual and simple, low-bass sound, so nothing special.
Keyboard Dock:
The scope of supply, as already mentioned above, the keyboard dock, which (with a SuperSpeed labeling) brings two additional USB ports and a 2.5-inch hard drive bay. The dock mechanism over the 2 retaining clips is very stable. Unlocking is carried out via a single button.
Battery:
Since only the tablet but not the docking keyboard brings a battery and the display fails relatively large and usually one HDD must be supplied, the term of actual approximately 5 hours on battery power is acceptable.
The processor performance is generally greatly reduced by the operating system running on battery power, the processor ran at me permanently with only 0.79 GHz! Here I have set the power settings a little more possible "Processor Power", the processor could reach even 1 GHz in battery mode. The tablet heats up rear right pretty neat, especially during charging.
The battery is, as with Tabs usual today, unfortunately, is not readily replaceable!
Other:
Even with this device, there is a recovery partition that takes up quite a bit of the 64 GB of internal SSD. For this purpose a lot of software is again (with partial costs or only trial versions) pre-installed, which reduce the available capacity of iSSD on. After the first Windows updates only about 32 Gbytes are available for free! Here you can, as needed, at least also a lot to uninstall unneeded software in order if necessary to create a little more space.
First conclusion:
There are some alternatives on the market, all of which have their pros and cons (... Yoga, ... Mix ... Switch, etc..) I wanted to especially have a good handling and real tablet solution that can transform into a fully functional yet subnotebook to order work comfortably at the desk can also. Furthermore, perceived as a good compromise 12.5-inch diagonal display, the Core i5M processor + iSSD and the additional disk languages in the Dock for this device. I knew also already the Asus Transformer Prime from the Androidbereich and its very high quality. Therefore, I have now decided to go for the Asus Transformermodell in Windows range.
The T300FA is an interesting and stylish design concept. The overall workmanship is good, even if the materials are mainly made of plastic ("creak" light only under strong pressure). The docking mechanism is very valuable! The display I find totally OK in the "only" HD Ready resolution, the overall performance of the "processor-memory iSSD-trailer combination" is absolutely fine.
Price I think the device (review time of 649, -) is just as appropriate but this is happening will soon take a little downward. Therefore, at the moment, for all the so enthusiastic recommendation a Transformer concept, principle, yes.
Possibly enough even only times the slightly cheaper model without HDD, which could be upgraded later in the Dock when needed easily (?), then you should take care, that the tab is actually a iSSD was blocked and no eMMC memory.
Four stars for price / performance at review time.
Addendum on 16/06/2015:
I have now received a second device in exchange. The first device had difficulty waking up from standby mode after a short time.
The new device is working properly. Meanwhile, Office 2007, various apps and some other programs were installed, everything runs smoothly. Even the Core i5-M are now available with the machine on battery power also readily up to 2.0 GHz clock frequency.
Pure Tablet function I use occasionally, usually I use the device in a comfortable "docking" mode.
