I had original Canon battery grips already on the EOS 350D, 400D and 40D. These were always entirely of plastic, and they had already firmly screw abundant, so that they were sitting halfway wobble-free. And just the solid screw had with many users side effects because the main gear of the transmission of plastic was, and often times broke. When made of metal BG-E7, however, a 100% wobble-free fit yields already with only slight screwing. So I would have imagined in the other handles. The BG-E7 sits as welded. One can thus use the 7D on the tripod, without having to remove the BG such as the BG-E2N stability reasons. Obviously puts Canon in the single digits EOS more emphasis on exact fit than the smaller models. The only weakness is a minimally creaking battery cover. Perhaps are still in use. Oh, and the vertical shutter release is slightly more sensitive than the main trigger in fact. But at least he is in contrast to the many replicas equipped with a premium spring contact triggers, and not with a cheap micro switch.
In my 7D menu is displayed even per symbol that is no longer the battery is seated in the housing, but in BG. You can even tell if he's plugged right or left. The only thing the BG-E7 for perfection is still missing is a second joystick.
Positives:
- Really perfect fit
- Handling
- Almost all the important controls in portrait
- Fixing the Hand Strap E1
Negatives:
- Slightly more ambitious price
- Creaking battery cover
- No 2. Joystick
- Trigger slightly more sensitive than the main trigger
- Total height is Minitrekker AW Flipside 300 and borderline, but still fits
Given the experiences with the other Canon battery grips I give 5 stars and full purchase recommendation.
