The arguments put forward by Dyson DC26 are on the small size for an equivalent suction power to the larger models.
The size, the difference is in blatant effect. The DC26 is in volume 2 or 3 times smaller than the DC19. This is a good point for storage. In ease of use, however, it is mainly the weight of interest. With the hose and suction head, DC26 weighs 5kg, against 8,2kg for the DC19. One notable difference 3kg, which is not nothing, but is still not as pronounced as the difference in size. Lighter, the DC26 is easier to pull and lift; but this reduced weight can also be a drawback if, like me, you used to hang the vacuum by pulling the hose as and progresses of cleaning: in turns, light weight DC26 makes it less stable and pull it to the side tends to overturn it, which is much rarer with a bigger model. The smallest distance between the wheels also plays on this lower stability.
In terms of power, it is not easy to evaluate precisely, but I made the following experiment: I place the suction tube (without accessories) near the edge of a carpet to create an effect " sucker, "then I gently raised until the carpet falls. The greater the height, the greater the surface and thus raised the carpet weight is high. From this little test, I found that the DC26 is still less powerful than the DC19, about 20%. The difference is not huge, especially when you see the difference in size and weight of 2 vacuum cleaners, but this loss of power compared to a larger model can be troublesome if we often aspire rugs or carpets with fur cat (for example).
At the noise, I can not hear a real difference in volume; the little fact as much noise as the big, only the tone changes (its a little high).
The tray that collects dust is obviously much smaller than on a big model, which means more frequent flushes. Personally I do not like to take care of that, so I prefer a bigger bin that is emptied less often. If you have large areas to suck, this small tray may become stressed.
In terms of accessories, I find the vacuum wand head with "default" is less convenient than the old and fat DC19, for several reasons:
- The head is less wide: 25cm 30cm against. Casually, it makes a difference of 16%. Since the width of the head directly conditions the surface sucked by each pass, this means that equivalent surface, you will make 16% passing more. So 16% of time in addition to vacuum. Again, in an apartment of 30 or 40m², this is not necessarily a problem, but in a house 120m difference begins to be felt
- The length adjustment is made in the bottom of the sleeve, not on the top as DC19. Consequence: If we want to change the current length of suction session, need to be addressed. It does not look like much, but casually when you're used to adjust the length directly from the handle without having to stop and look, it's a bit annoying
- The head is angled a bit too high with the handle, which means to press the head on the ground, you either look much the handle (not practical unless measuring 1m30), or exert pressure to "force" the angle (which is obviously flexible, but not flexible enough)
Conclusion: Dyson DC26 Dyson is a great product, with all the usual qualities of Dyson vacuum cleaners. But this is clearly a vacuum cleaner suitable for small-type housing apartments. For a house, I advise a "big" model, type DC29, which is certainly bulkier and heavier, but a little more powerful, more stable and faster for the same final cleaning surface.
