But first the pros of SX220:
+ Great Bidqualität for this camera class (have compared a lot with Sony, Panasonic, Casio, Fujifilm)
+ Handy housing despite 14x optical zoom
+ 14x zoom brings even distant subjects up close and can be controlled precisely and quickly
+ Good image stabilizer
+ Semi-automatic and manual controls (very important for me to even be able to even lend a hand)
+ Good Full HD video
+ Many filters and scene programs (color change, thumbnail mode, night shot without tripod)
+ Even in low light low-noise images are usually still possible
+ Beautiful macro shots possible
Now the somewhat negative side:
- Display is in 4: 3 mode is not fully exploited (is fixed with the SX240)
- Something slow continuous shooting: 3 frames / sec (SX240: 10 frames / s)
- "Only" 14x Optical Zoom (SX240: 20x optical zoom.)
- Battery life could be better (about 200 images possible replacement battery for long trips duty)
- No RAW, bracketing or long exposures> 15s possible (is CHDK allows)
Despite my SX220 has as I said a lot of fun and I would have bought at once, especially at the current bargain price!
Nevertheless, I have for the successor, the Canon SX240 decided since I have moved to the extended zoom range and the faster processor (Digic V) me. However the changed optics is possibly at the expense of the low-light behavior (additional test will show this). About the SX240 I will report in more detail in another review!
In conclusion, I can only say: Who the 14x zoom is sufficient and need not necessarily have the latest image processor, which can confidently beat the Canon SX220 is a bargain and a lot of fun with it!
