I let the Arcam RLink accrued before conversion by the applet with the SBT sample. Here you can tell already with normal FLAC files 41.1 kHz / 16 bit a clearly audible sound profit in the form of precise contours in the representation of voices and instruments (eg enhanced bass punch), but once more clearly audible in the corresponding high-res files boosted by increased transparency in the spatial representation and fine detail of the music.
The problems described here that the Arcam can not be activated again after 24 hours at the optical output (only after the on-off switch), I can not confirm. Perhaps this applies only to those who operate the RLINK to an LCD TV and take this overnight completely from the mains. The SBT is at least always powered via their standby power and the Arcam LED thus steady green. This should lt. Manufacturer BDA consume about 0.7 watts.
What remains to say otherwise: The little box is solid, that PSU is noiseless and Arcam has - admittedly - simple connection cable for Coax, Tosling, RCA and a German short-BDA enclosed.
Conclusion:
- Great value for money
- Tonally significant appreciation of my SBT
- Simple plug-n'-play
- Solid construction
- Decent Accessories
