One has, however lucky and can avoid being dazzled by clever siting, you will be rewarded with spectacular images. Image Stabilizer and Zoom performance are fabulous, depth and detail drawings have snatched me an enthusiastic WOW. And that's saying something, I happen also DSLR spoiled. However, as I said, the camera needs a lot of light when clouds provide a dim light is ISO ratcheted unnecessary and the noise reduction kicks mercilessly, with the famous watercolor effect in the inset drawing. Although this is not tragic, but can fear the worst.
And in fact, what is produced the camera indoors weak, not to use the automatic there. The flash is apparently so weak that even for a 3-person group of 3 meters ISO 800 (!) In the iAuto mode is selected. Consequently the result is of course disastrous when ISO manually sets to 100 do not even make the flash a small room, or a corner where they illuminate 3 people to sit together. If you are keen to experiment, has time and patience, you eventually creates pictures which are just about acceptable in postcard format. Suitable snapshot that is no longer but.
The videos are a benchmark (mind you - for advanced digicams), many DSLRs do not offer such a convincing performance. Here again comes the powerful image stabilizer and the almost perfect auto-focus to bear. I tested with 720p, the so-called "small HD" because I realize that Compact quickly reach their limits here. A bucking, I could not tell which is criticized by some here on fast pans. However, I see the sense of fast pans more than as a stylistic means and then dosed carefully if you do not want the audience to be seasick. Who wants to take explosions in Full HD should anyway look in the professional area, for such difficult situations not even offer semi-professional camcorder sufficient power, let alone digital cameras.
GPS I have not tested, for me is just not as important to have it right off at the beginning. Nevertheless was the battery pretty quickly empty (about 126 photos, about 3 min. Film and a little playing around with the settings), I personally could do without GPS, for example in favor of a stronger battery.
The HDR effect is weak, typical of the compact class, because I still had hoped for more because according to Panasonic actually 3 images are made and a real HDR are aggregated me. OK 3 images are indeed the minimum, but still a little more than this pseudo-HDR, which offer the most compact, I would have expected.
My conclusion: Too bad, so making good photos as the camera on a sunny day, I have rarely seen from a compact - which does not even need the comparison with a DSLR to shy away from. Add to that the apparently very successful lens Leica with this gigantic zoom performance, in combination with the unique image stabilizer (the best of me so far came in the hands) and as I said almost perfect auto-focus. If Panasonic get some of the weaknesses (keyword flash output and indoors) in the handle with a new firmware, the camera would even earn 6-star and I would keep it, so 3.5 would be appropriate, 4 stars, however, too much.
I got me with the TZ31 really bother a detailed tests done, with about 200 photos in all kinds of situations and settings, the results on the screen and as a printout (DIN A4 and 10x15) and judged me is the final verdict really difficult for me because there is a camera very like. But ultimately, was the realization that you can refer to this camera does not leave, when it comes to shooting indoors decisive.
