I have long used Windows (Windows 7 does a good job - but I wanted to try something else)
and am initially switched to Linux Mint. Anyone who takes a lot of time will love the latter - but I wanted something where I do not even spend hours tweaking / adapt and must have my Mac mini bought as cheapest version for the Mac OS + Apple Wireless Keyboard.
As a student at a university with Apple on Campus access the device is currently quite affordable (about 528)

What struck me first: Beautiful packing, Class Design. HDMI to DVI cable is included - no HDMI cable. Who has a TV with HDMI will certainly be satisfied with the picture and sound is so transferred to a high standard.

Older screens have to hire an AVI port - there is nothing wrong and the converter cable, so I'll call it - is useless (So look before time!)

Incidentally, there are also buyers who recently purchased the mini new a free update for current Mountain Lion - Installation included Download Foodland and should be the first when starting the Mac ...

In addition to positven things like "quiet", "beautiful" and "stable" thus counting on what / was personally bothered me / unfamiliar has:

- The memory with 2GB of memory standard model is definitely too little: I advise definitely one of them for about 40 to 50 euros to 8GB himself upgrade: Goes without tools and there are plenty of Youtube videos that show how easy it is - so do not buy directly from Apple and can be upgraded, which is simply too expensive for the 5 minutes of light "work." In addition, 8 GB for several years should be more than I want to be my sufficient.

- Keyboard layout is different - clear, is not a Windows. Have to write out of habit, for example, an @ (the @ sign is on the new keyboard on the letter "L") always CMD and Q down ... but that's for close command's program on the Mac ... but you get used to quickly to the keyboard. Absence does the Delete key ... or you can adjust, as I had to look again. Otherwise: Reviews about keyboard's enough.

- HDD is 500GB Although quite large, but slowly. In much multitasking is pushed into the swap - it shows clearly with the hard drive must be running for reloading (hence the upgrade to the RAM, is cheaper than an SSD)

- What's bothering me the most (simply because I have so long used Windows and Linux with Compiz) maximize the function of the window ... it's only used zoom or full screen (you can see the dock and time do not): The window as Safari adjusts the zoom to the content ... may have its advantages / disadvantages is very strange or even unusual as Windows and Linux are totally different ...

- Hard disks and drives that are connected and are removed after use for normal ... no problem under Windows and Linux ... In Mac always comes an error message if one pulls out it without first being ejected ... happens with the other operating systems, most if the stick is actively used, as read or save file.

- It would have been nice if Apple would have included from the start an Office program - I assumed that one right from the start it would be (because of "switch on and use ...") - I have anyway downloaded equal OpenOffice that works tadelos. Installation is also very simple (the same for printer: switching, Mac installed automatically via the Internet and you're done)
Instead, on the other hand it is iMovie, GarageBand, Mail etc ... A lot of so you do not have to download.

- I was the first one hard drive connected with a variety of movies and series ... QuickTime could somehow not read AVI ... that should surely be possible I think to myself ?! Luckily there's indeed the VLC player ... looks on the Mac even better than in Windows / Linux, and is with me Standard program for all 3 operating systems.

- No optical drive available - that will be familiar to most readers. I do not need it, got it previously hardly needed, but one thing is to have quite nice;)

- Can be probably less to play (which I almost never do anyway!)

-What I noticed: many shortcuts are like Windows / Linux. There are already common - more with Linux than Windows, I find. Only generally much less adjustment than a lot easier but I feel the Mac does not ...

Despite the many little annoying things I'd stick with the Mac - especially since I also have iPhone and iPad ... The concept of the devices convinced me just - everything from one source, chic, simple and absolutely reliable all.
Testing should be the operating system in any case times, one or the other but certainly also interfere. Recommend I want nothing - it's just a question of whether one is willing to learn something new or wants to stay with his old OS.
