Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Nicholas Hooper was named the successor to Williams and Doyle for the music for the fifth film of "Harry Potter". After some saw the music of Patrick Doyle as a bit monotonous and uninspired, David Yates Hooper chose a new composer for Potter and Co. I personally liked Doyle's music very much, but Hooper has personally the spirit of "Harry Potter" a little better captured for me and is fairly close to John Williams scores first off, I think. Then I would certainly disagree with some fans, but I can say as an avowed Williams fanatics but honestly that Hooper's musical contribution sounds really originel, flexible, dark and beautiful. Even if he does not create large and enthralling topics, such as Williams, but the atmosphere of the film fits this much better ...

The CD starts with the brilliant song "Fireworks", a wonderful, fast-paced track that initiates equal a magnificent atmosphere for the score and at the same time is a great accompaniment to dispose of Weaslyzwillinge! The electric guitar I find neither inappropriate nor annoying, it just sounds cool!
The wonderful, nasty topic in "Umbridge" is really a stroke of genius by Mr. Hooper. Very dynamic motif that at first listen very alert sounds, but something sneaky, evil includes in the background, which is a perfect accompaniment character.
"Another Story" runs the famous Harry finally topic again, which Hooper used more often than Doyle in "The Goblet Of Fire". This shows the composer in which direction the soundtrack is all about: A dark, tragic, almost depressed mood generated music. And not least because the big London Symphony Orchestra does not play. Hooper wanted a beklemmendere atmosphere than its predecessor, which always sounded large and grand.
"Dementors In The Underpass" is very dark and sinister, with a moment of shock and a beautiful allusion to Williams' Patronus Light "from Part 3 with skillful choir use, the gloomy sounds first and then in the bright" light "will change, very impressive!
"Dumbledore's Army" is the next big, beautiful theme that Hooper introduces: This starts very discreet and is getting stronger and more intense in the course until it sounds more harmonious and dynamic with a very elegant melody in the foreground, which was very nice, the budding rebellion the students underscored.
"The Hall Of Prophecies" begins as track 4, but later more and more dramatic and mysterious, again with a subtle but strong choir use. Then the disturbing dream sequence of Harry, where he met Voldemort begins. From the half of the piece is very exciting and faster and faster until it finally very action-packed (but with some reluctance) is. For some this may sound uninspired, me tear these dark tones with repeatedly, very strong!
Also "Possession" leads this dark mood further. And here it creates Hooper the atmosphere from the movie very skillfully capture by simple means. A track that is becoming more intense and emotional time until it all erupts at the end in his tragedy ...
"The Room Of Requirements" is the longest piece. Here the third central theme is presented and although the the Room of Requirement. It first starts with a very charming and enchanted version of Umbridgethemas, with plenty of harps and chimes. Then the melody goes into the subject from the Room of Requirement while retaining the dynamics and the backround of "Umbridge". So merges the search of Umbridge after the Room of Requirement perfectly in this track, very genial Mr Hooper!
"The Kiss" is short, designed romantic and very melancholic.
"Journey To Hogwarts" welcomes again the Harry topic and then slowly walks into the scene over, in the Sirius Harry shows his pedigree. Another simple, but very effective and beautiful title that something clearer and more playful is again at the end and also a nice change to the gloomy mood, which again is heard in "The Sirius Deception" in all its glory and some very dramatic after one minute and is exciting! At the end we hear then the wonderful flight melody when Harry and Co fly to Teasthralen the Ministry.
"Death Of Sirius" is one of my favorite tracks, especially because of the drumming Action accompaniment at the end (goose bumps!) And the tragic aftertaste. For this purpose a thrilling accompaniment for the duel of "Phoenix" - members and the Death Eaters.
With "Umbridge Spoils A Beautiful Morning" is heard again a dreamy and enchanting melody that breaks out from a dark atmosphere and then changes into Umbridgemotiv, this time in a very decent version, played primarily with harp.
By contrast, "Darkness Takes Over" is again a crass counterpart! Again, the Umbridgethema sounds in a short music box version and is then very rapidly and threatening, with a drumming background, which reflects very well the mood of the piece title.
"The Ministry Of Magic" begins with a funny version of "Room of Requirement" - theme. From the half of the piece is very loud, dramatic and elegant.
"The Sacking Of Trelawney" is heartbreaking, although "only" a title for a rather trivial scene ... Especially at the end is expected to draw the listener into his spell the track. Simply strong!
"Flight Of The Order Of The Phoenix" is the impressive and beautiful airplane theme that is unfortunately only played in this scene. A title that perfectly captures the mood and theme of the scene. The music sounds so nice military at the beginning and then breaks out fully in its lightness and elegance, gorgeous!
"Loved Ones And Leaving" is the last track unfortunately, the adopted the score with a delicate composition. This is also the last part of the film, when Harry and Co go to Hogwarts Express and before the end credits start. Also this track is very harmonious and beautiful to listen in the end, with the flute used in the background and the brilliant strings.

Hoopers score is absolutely amazing! Very charming themes, many small, ingenious underpainting, bristling all just before power and intensity, even though many do not get to hear. I am even so mad and I can say that I have become a fan of Hooper, because me his score has fascinated the sixth film. I just like the change from subjects ranging and colorful orchestral sound (Williams) to the somber and serious Potter flair (Doyle, Hooper), and Patrick Doyle is somewhere in between ...

Unfortunately, this CD has two shortcomings: First, the music is too short! On several and beautiful variations of the individual topics can wait until the Umbridgethema. If there would be a special edition, for example, a Complete score (of course a limited edition) I would buy me, because I'd love to hear from Hoopers nice soundtrack!
In addition, the arrangement is very stupid: Absolutely unchronologisch what a very tears out, if you know the movie. For all other, the order is good, but the music works in chronological order even better ...

But ok, that can cope with it and that's why I do not give the score four stars because the Quality me blow your mind. Who does not like Hooper, who just do not like him. Most fans will find his music on the most boring and monotonous ... opinions are just different. I love the soundtracks from Williams, but that's why I'm talking about me this CD is not bad, just because of the Grand Master himself no longer composed, sondenr let myself on Hoopers inventiveness and enjoy the wonderful and serious atmosphere that he creates with his work. From me a strong buy recommendation for a dynamic, evocative, yet graceful Potter Core!
