Well, after this somewhat lengthy introduction, I'm going on the album to be a, or on the songs and will describe them in detail and evaluate. It will be very long, but I hope that some of you have the patience to read through it themselves, namely'll give me much trouble;) Well there you go:
TAIKATALVI: 8/10
Intro The first track in Nightwish's career ... and what kind of !!! A music box starts to play and Marco interspersed with gentle singing a Finnish. If then uses a small orchestra after a few seconds you have the same feeling you can hear the soundtrack of a Tim Burton film (for example, "Corpse Bride"), a dark and melancholic atmosphere, which run on the whole also on further Album becomes. STORY TIME: 9.5 / 10
This song is probably already familiar to everyone. However, you will find the one and a half minutes long album version ago, in contrast to the much weaker Radio Edit from the music video, which was released as in Youtube a few weeks ago. Even here began the polarization of the fan base, a designated track as the best Nightwish music, while the other Storytime saw as a pandering to the mainstream. Now for me this is utter nonsense again, especially the album version is probably a lot less commercial than for example "Nemo" or "Amaranth" !!! The song has a heavy Nightwish conditions reef, very fast beat and a huge central part, including children / adults choir and orchestra! The chorus is probably the most commercial song on, a super catchy and sugary tune but stand in stark contrast to the more discordant and menacing-sounding verses. I like the song really very good, in my opinion, the best single of Nightwish because it simply includes everything that makes up the band: Hardness, bombast, as well as sophisticated, catchy and beautiful melodies. The first highlight of the album.
GHOST RIVER: 10/10
Ok, this track is amazing !!! A true board of Song: hard, melodic, atmospheric. It all starts with a riff that me something and the album "Wishmaster" remembers, but can not say exactly why ... then sets Anette with her song, and you think the song is a very nice, well digestible mid-tempo number .. . but then * BRAATZZ * Anette is detached from the wild rumbrüllenden Marco (bass), who then sings the following VERY GOOD refrain: "He wants to go down, He wants to drown, drown, deeper down ..." really cool and super atmospheric, one of the best choruses in Nightwish's careers! In the middle section then finally gets even a children's choir singing again this refrain, which is then in turn replaced by Marco. All in all Mega Song, which, however, needs some Hörduchgänge until it ignites properly, due to the somewhat complex song structure. In my opinion, perhaps the best song on the album.
Slow Love Slow: 8.5 / 10
Well ... that is probably some Nightwish fans leave very confused ^^ For this is a jazz song ala "I am sitting one night in 1930 in a small nightclub in Chicago" or something like that). But I can tell relieved that this experiment is very well done, Anette sings great, very quiet and smoky, and overall it shows despite the unusual choice of the genre, this is a Nightwish song. Alone at the piano theme in the background, which gives the piece an incredibly dark and dense atmosphere. There is also a very fine technical guitar solo by Emppu and a trumpet solo that could be of Louis Armstrong in person. Overall, an unusual but very good song, but also ignite only when often hear.
I WANT MY TEARS BACK: 9.5 / 10
After a groovy jazz a 180 degree turn is now completed, and we end up in the Celtic area, including bagpipes (or related instrument'm not sure). A mid-tempo number that is probably one of the eingänstigen pieces on the album. After a very nice verse sung by Anette you continue in the chorus, which is a bit of "Wish I Had an Angel" reminds me, because Anette and Marco share the vocal parts. But the real highlight is the center part: One of Riverdance reminiscent Pipes / electric guitar solo the orderly pace and mood makes (reminds me of "Last of the Wilds"). After this Hammer am back in the chorus. A really good deal, and absolute single candidate, in my opinion much better than ever as "Bye Bye Beautiful", because it simply has this mega midsection.
SCARETALE: 9.5 / 10
This song will probably go down as the funniest Nightwish song ever in the history. It all starts very "Creepy" with the children's choir and wailing strings that lead immediately to a melody that again very strongly reminds me of a Tim Burton soundtrack. And then you start off going: Orchestra. Choir. Double Base. Overall, almost three minutes when a purely instrumental. But then sets Anettes "singing", and place it as you have never heard of him. You quitscht, squeals and screams like crazy, sounds affengeil to express it formally). After two verses of Anette (no chorus, something this song has not namely) you continue on Circus / music show, this time "sung" by Marco. This part reminds me of Disney movies when the villain be subject sings for example;) So Marco warbles Just looking "LALALALALAAAA" or "HU HU HA HA". While listening the first time one imagines certainly "What the ..." but I find it to few passages just great and very funny. Especially the orchestra should be emphasized in this song, in any Nightwish song the arrangements were as complex and sophisticated as this. Overall, this song is better and hear better each time, and it is definitely a classic in the history of Nightwish)
ARABESQUE: 8/10
First pure orchestral instrumental. There is not much to say except that it (how the name already be deduced) is an oriental sounding piece, and the percussion of this song are really cool, and the actual orchestral arrangements. Now no highlight of the album, but also much more than a boring reconciliation. Even for this track applies: hear more !!
Turn Loose The Mermaids: 9/10
A celtic sounding, acoustic piece that something reminds me of "The Islander", only this time Anette sings alone. And that makes it really good, and really very emotional. One of the most emotional songs of Nightwish, especially if you understand the meaning of the lyrics ... in the middle of the song there is a whistled part (or is it a flute ..?) Well, sounds very nice in any case. Counts definitely Nightwish best ballads.
REST CALM: 8.5 / 10
A very heavy and sluggish piece which in the verses of Marco and in the chorus of Anette, or Anette and Marco is sung. In the middle section there is a very beautiful place, when the children's choir sings again the actual chorus. Can one be a real goose bumps ... but then explodes the song, and there is an almost endless Wiedeholung the choruses of each round, however even more bombastic and fierce will. A strong song which has, however, ignited with me after the 4-5 times listening.
THE CROW, THE OWL AND THE DOVE: 8/10
Another ballad, and perhaps radio friendly song on the album. The verses, sung by Anette, are really very atmospheric and melancholic, and the chorus is sung again by Anette and Marco together. In the middle section you can hear for a short time a guest musician Troy Donockley which admittedly really something "pop" sounds, but heard after several get used to it, and this part fits seamlessly with the rest of the tracks. Overall, very nice song, but in my opinion it lacks that certain something somehow ... perhaps the weakest song on the album, but not bad, especially when you consider that it does not come from the pen of "Maestro" Tuomas Holopainen, but the bass player Marco.
LAST RIDE OF THE DAY: 9/10
Probably the most typical Nightwish song ever. Everything here is reminiscent of Nightwish's great virtues, epic choruses, whipping riffs, super catchy chorus. Overall, although it is one of the toughest, but also the song with the simplest structure to Imaginaerum. Therefore clear single candidate.
Song of Myself: 9/10
The "epic" song on the album. All 13 and a half minutes is the board, which are divided into 4 more subordinate songs. Roughly speaking, this is the first half again Nightwish pure, violent choirs, heavy guitars, but this time much more complex Songstrukur than on the previous track. Therefore, again needed to "understand" more Hördurchgänge everything;). The second half, however, is much more interesting: A six and a half minutes long poem, or story that is spoken by different people (eg friends, family members of the band). Underlaid all is of gentle piano and strings. Some like this part of the song perhaps strange codes, almost seven minutes of pure talk, but the text is very beautiful and challenging, and emotionally ... even if one should not understand English;) In addition, this long poem because of the enormous total length Album justified (75 minutes) in any case, and not a pure "in the length of pull" because enough musical material in the conservative sense exists. Overall it is a tremendously versatile and beautiful piece, but it does not quite reach the epics "Poet and the Pendulum" and "Ghost Love Score" approach ... but what does that mean, these tracks are sowiso to beat almost impossible.
IMAGINAERUM: 8.5 / 10
The "Outro" of the album, as well as the closing credits of the film of the same name, which will be released in April next year. It is a pure orchestral piece that themes from the songs of the album picks up again, and puts together a medley, practically the entire album in six and a half minutes. A very good idea for the closing track, especially nice is the effect when you hear the whole album at a time, and here again finds all the highlights. Very Nice.
Well that's it for now. After 75 minutes, the mammoth of album comes to an end, and some may grumble due to the enormous complexity of the head, but this album is a true masterpiece and in my opinion the best Nightwish album ever. My reasons? You'Re Welcome:
1) Ingenious Songwriting
2.) HAMMER orchestral arrangements, better than ever
3.) An enormous range of songs that could not be more different, yet the album makes a very rounded impression
4.) Tremendous atmosphere
5.) Anettes voice sounds very good here and multi-faceted, far from being a quality slump after Tarja era
Is quite clear that by far not an MP3 player this album background music, and, as I said, takes time to unfold. Now I have even more passes of the album behind me, and I can say from me that I at least can reasonably objectively evaluate it now. It is sad that most of Amazon probably after the first time you hear here already equal to write down their effusions, which are much too negative and unwarranted mostly. This album is not bad at all, it is a true masterpiece of the symphonic metal, and in my opinion, best album of the year.
Compared to Dark Passion Play, although it is less hard and heavy metal, but the songs are much better thought out, and it makes a more coherent in itself impression.
And I am already at the end of my review arrived ... yes, probably too long, but it had to be easy times jetz. Who has thus far endured down to read, whom I thank for my attention :)
